Jaylon Smith Great Comparison Vid to Reggie Ragland

It's hilarious when people continue to show their ignorance on the defense that Marinelli runs. It's actually suppose to free up the linebacker to run free to the ball. Many want to even claim it's outdated even though the seahawks run a similar scheme.

Well, when the defensive coordinator of the team calls his linemen "rushmen", and he has stated over and over again that he doesn't value players who take up blockers, he values penetration. The Mike and Sam absolutely have to take on blocks in this scheme. The only LB that is designed to have free reign is the Will, and Lee isn't moving any time soon. The problem is that the defensive line here isn't very good, and neither is the Sam linebacker, who has to take on blocks.

When they go to nickel, they go wider and try to take up space. This shifts more of the burden on the linebackers, and is the reason why you get plays like this when you need a stop:

That play is a mental mistake by Lee. He has to stay on the other side of #84 because the other LB already filled that side.
