NFL draft prospect and former Notre Dame linebacker Jaylon Smith experienced another setback in his recovery from a torn ACL and MCL suffered during the Fiesta Bowl on New Year's Day.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoportreported that during medical evaluations at the NFL Scouting Combine, it was discovered that Smith has nerve issues with his ankle and knee, and "teams believe he's out for 2016—at least."

Even after the injury, Smith was a bona fide first-round talent after receiving All-American honors and the Dick Butkus Award

That's crushing news. He definitely just slipped out of the first and possibly the second. If there isn't even a timetable for his return yet, he could really slide.

Gah, sucks for him. Maybe the La'el Collins for 2016. Or at least a Day 3 flyer that could reap huge rewards.

Seems like even when he's healed, the knee could have a limited shelf life.

I think teams should be concerned about if he can even be same player anymore. Let someone else take that huge risk.

I have no problem using one of our comp picks on him. Even if he only gets back to 80% of what he was, he's better than 90% of the linebackers in this draft.

If it's just next year then i'd consider a second on him, but the uncertainty of the longterm prognosis would probably make me wait till the late 4th or 5th.

Didn't Willis McGahee have the same sort of prognosis? He looked pretty damn incredible when he was fully recovered.

Then there is Marcus Lattimore who just retired because he never fully healed...

Brugler was saying on the Draft Show it is too early for this speculation, that the recheck in April will tell much more.

Shame regardless, this guy has all the tools!

It's a pretty crappy thing that Smith's medical information is floating out there for everyone to see. And, it's not known whether it's even true or not.

If teams are doing this to get him to drop, it's a really lousy thing to do to a kid. And, scumbags like Rapoport will pass along this stuff without a second thought. I really feel for Smith in all of this.

I think most football people did not expect him to play in 2016 at all. I don't know what he was doing at the combine six weeks after surgery. He's insured for $5M loss if he falls in the draft. I imagine he will fall to the 4th or later if the nerve damage rumors are true.

6th round Choice sounds like a d-day scream come true, LB Jaylen Smith is not RB Marcus Lattimore.
