Out for a year, would you take a flier on with with a 4th rounder? I would.
Didn't Willis McGahee have the same sort of prognosis? He looked pretty damn incredible when he was fully recovered.
Then there is Marcus Lattimore who just retired because he never fully healed...

Those were the names that came to my mind as well, but I don't believe either one of them suffered nerve damage. Lattimore dislocated his knee I believe, along with tearing pretty much every ligament in his knee and breaking a few bones in the process. I don't think, however that he suffered any nerve damage. Same with McGahee I think, bunch of torn ligaments but no nerve damage.
I'm having a hard time finding former players with a similar injury as Jaylon's (i.e. nerve damage). The one I've managed to find was Napolean McCallum's, but even without the nerve damage, his injury sounded especially devastating....
If anyone can find other players with similar injuries (specifically nerve damage) that would be appreciated, cause I'm having little luck.
And to the doctors on this board, can nerve damage be repaired? If so, do you need to let it heal over time or is it a surgical process? Recovery time?
Is this supposed nerve damage a result of the knee injury in the bowl game or a separate issue?
Spoke to an orthopedic doctor at a party last night. Big Chargers fan (originally from San Doego).
Said the nerve is definitely "pulled" more than likely and that the peroneal nerve can take up to a year to heal if it heals at all. Can be totally unpredictable. By summer Smith's knee could look so much better or he could still have issues with the nerve. His range of outcomes really is anywhere from never play again to a 10 year stud LB.
Someone will draft him way higher than we think. Watch it be Denver in the first round -- they pick last, might as well.
