Jaylon Smith is on pace for a Monster year
http://profootballtalkline.com/nfl/...lon-smith-is-on-pace-for-a-monster-year.html/

The Cowboys couldn’t pull off a win on Sunday against the in-state rival Texans, but it’s not all doom and gloom Cowboys fans because there is a playmaker stepping up on defense that looks like a cornerstone to build around. That’s linebacker Jaylon Smith.

In a game where there was not a lot to get excited about as a Cowboy fan, you have to give it up to Jaylon Smith. The dude had a heck of a game. The defense once again played well enough for the win, as Smith led the Cowboys in tackles with 12 against Houston. He was all over the field...

...Last year Smith played all 16 games and was okay. He got better as the season wore on. This year he is all the way back from the knee injury and his athleticism on the field is obvious.

Smith is the Cowboys leading tackler with 41 on the year while also chipping in with 3 sacks. He was outstanding rushing the passer at Notre Dame and that has transitioned to his play in the pros. Smith is now on pace for over 120 tackles and 9 sacks.

Monster paycheck also. How many years left in his rookie deal? Bet you once his agent gets involved there won’t be a home town discount. Or a JJ discount for taking a chance on him with a 2nd round pick.

Looks like next year is his last. Gave him 3 million his first year and he didn’t play. Made 5 million so far.

Next year is his last, but he will be a RFA. So the cowboys have him on the cheap for 2 more years.

Was the chinadoll Snake Lee asked to take a JJ discount after being drafted in the second round? F outta here, Jaylon should take these clowns for all that he's worth.

He has turned the corner this year— he is seeing the play develop and the game has slowed down for him. His athleticism is impressive and he brings a noticeable thump every time he makes a tackle.

That said— this defense as a whole is giving up too many big plays and they are not generating enough turnovers to be considered elite.

Hoping they get better the more they play together

Can’t afford him. Will need to pay Dak and Elliot and Jones and D-Law. Lol. My guess is Lee will either be a coach next year or be asked to take a pay cut. I think he gets 7 million next year but we have out with his contract.

They will be fine. With the money they will be saving by not having to pay 25 mil a season for a QB there will be enough to sign other key pieces of the team.

I want to see him more aggressive at the POA but overall he has been very good..

I think you're right about Lee. I would be surprised if we don't give Zeke the Lev Bell treatment and franchise him. Dak is playing himself right out of a big contract. If he improves then maybe that becomes problematic for the cap but right now it is looking like we will have another cheap rookie soon.

Smith, LVE, DLaw, and Jones could be the bedrock players of a very good defense for half a decade or longer. Now, if we can just get the offense back on track...

add Chido to that list.
