The part that got me excited and confident was when he said he thinks he could have played in the playoffs this year. There has to have been significant improvement for him to make that statement and that tells me he should no doubt be ready for next year. All the regeneration talk is nice but still unclear what that means. My ears will perk up when someone starts saying refiring.

If he is 100% by TC, I'll take that

I'm pretty sure the "return from IR" thing requires an 8 week waiting period from the time he is placed on IR. Once he went IR in wk 14, it was over for this year.

I keep saying it but anytime you find your future franchise QB in the draft unexpectedly, you've won the football lottery.

Securing a true franchise QB is the hardest thing to do in professional football. Some teams have spent decades trying to fill the spot (see the Browns, Jets, et cetera).
This is twice recently as Romo was undrafted.

I'm still pessimistic about someone able to play with drop foot. I wouldn't rule it out totally though.

That's great news. Mickey is an idiot. Jaylon will be on the hall of fame.

Mickey may be an idiot, but in this case all he seemed angry about was people thinking Jaylon could be playing at an elite level in these playoffs.

Some folks can't deal with reality. Jaylon's said himself he still wears an AFO, but apparently when you repeat what he's said you're being "pessimistic" when you're just giving an accurate status of his current health condition.

Same type of folks that get taken by blab it and grab it theology.
Offensive lineman wear braces for no reason at all other than they protect against injury. Watch Tyron Smiths last regular season play.

Not that I disagree with a lot of what you say, but you have seemed to have relished in taking the antagonist role on this subject and in reality, you are just as bad as some of the zealots because you know nothing more than they do.

No, I'm a stickler for accuracy.

We had a guy on here claiming Jaylon was running his 40 recently without his AFO brace.

That's factually incorrect.

I'm not bringing up the AFO to rain on folks parade. We can all celebrate the fact his nerve is regenerating/firing and recovery is advancing. But what we don't need is bad information because it serves no purpose.

If folks are too sensitive or prideful, getting their feelings hurt when they're corrected, I can't help with that.

Knee braces and AFO devices are apples-to-oranges. Tyron Smith doesn't suddenly lose mobility in his knee if he doesnt wear a brace because it only serves as support and protection. Jaylon wears an AFO because it allows his foot to function until he recovers completely from his drop foot.

I'd say if he's experiencing sensation and all the test confirm that, I think it's only a matter of time before the drop foot isn't even an issue. This is really the first time Jaylon has really come out and said something about it. So that tells me he's pretty positive about it.

Guess you didn't watch his 3 cone drill or listen to his comments about running a 4.5. Not sure why most of you are pessimistic that this guy won't see the field in 2017. Wake up and smell the coffee, as Jaylon is going to be a force to be recogned with.

I don't think it was negative...basically saying nothing much has changed. The foot drop remains. All Mickey was saying.
His quote was "there seems to be celebration,oh the nerve is firing...that's not the case"

I'm not sure if firing is different than regenerating. Which Jaylon said the Dr. confirmed.

That is not what Jaylon said. Now I'm not sure if there's a difference between firing or regenerating, but it was a different tone either way.

I think that's really the key question here that a lot of people aren't asking. What, if any, is the difference between a nerve "firing" and the tingling sensations Smith is feeling? "Tingling" would indicate electrical impulses are in fact traveling through the nerve. So wouldn't that indicate it's firing? Or does "firing" indicate something else? And if so, is that a gradual thing, or does it happen all at once?

He is not bumping into people in the 3 cone...

I think both (regenerating/firing) are happening.

The closest case study we have is Sean Spence (w/the Titans). He had nearly the same injury as Jaylon, including damaged peroneal nerve and accompanying dropout. Spence talked about how his dropfoot gradually resolved itself as he would get certain sensations and feelings back over time until he finally got full functionality back. He's now perfectly fine and playing.

Do you have more information on the time frame of spences recovery? Specifically the time frame it took for the nerve to start firing and the healing of the drop foot

This is a great post. If Jaylon can cover TEs, then Byron Jones can stay back at FS.

Yeah it really hurts us when we have to move Byron into that position, even though hes good at it. Now I've always thought we should pick up another safety so when Bryon is down there, we have another option as a center fielder than Heath.

But if Jaylon can actually stay with TEs, that changes everything on our D.
