No reason to rush him back after you invested this much in him.

This is what I love about Cowboyszone. The sky starts falling again every few days.

Let's see what round three brings. I'm sure it will bring much gnashing of tears.....again.

Exactly, there is risk but the Cowboys are in a better position to know the level of risk than any other team.

And I'm fine knowing Smith won't play this year. Tyrone Crawford missed his rookie year with an injury and he was still a very good use of a 3rd round pick.

The trick to being okay with this pick is to pretend his injury happened in training camp. Seriously. That's how I'm mind gaming myself into being happy with it.

Also Andrew Billings is still available and was probably rated a low first round talent. If we can get him at 67, we can tell ourselves he was the 2nd round pick no matter what.

6-9 months not unusual anymore. I expect to see him at some point but that's not a prediction. Too early for that.

I love smith the player. I think he will be a very good player. I'm just not sure that the way this team
Is constructed with our win now QB that we have the ability to red shirt any players this year. We need all the help we can get. Especially from a second round pick

I could see this pick as an investment in the future if this was the 80's. However, when we consider free agency it appears as though the #34 pick in the draft will give us three years of solid play within a 4 year span.

I dont know if that is enough value for a pick two slots away from the 1st round. I could see it if they were stacked at most positions but is 3 years of possibly elite play better than 4 years of solid play?

My other concerns are the frequency in which the Cowboys add a damaged player in a top round and their recent track record in the 2nd round.

2016 is not the year to get cute in the draft, they desperately needed immediate help in some critical positions and premium talent on the D-line was there.

With that said, i hope he can come back in 2017 to a team on the brink of championships and be a deciding factor.

That's what I'm wondering...or I'm wondering what Sean Lee is wondering. He's not a Mike (except maybe in nickel). He doesn't take on blockers. He runs around them. He's either taking Sean Lee's job at Will or we spent a very high 2nd (and a medical redshirt) on a Sam, which is pretty easily filled in this defense.

He could very well be great in a Derrick Brooks role, but we're all pretending it's a foregone conclusion that he's going to come back as a 4.5 guy he was. If he comes back but he's more like a 4.7 guy, he's lost the thing that made him unique.

Don't worry, at the end of the day we'll find a position for him. Even if we have to create some kind of new hybrid position. You adjust the scheme to the strengths of your players, even if a couple of them have similar skill sets.

There's just no way that both Lee and Smith won't see the field together, book it.

If the nerve started regenerating normally already is that a good sign it will complete? Is there some biomechanism that might stop it before it's through?

Haven't read everything related. Wasn't aware of nerve damage which would alter rehab.

The Cowboys did not go blind into the process of drafting him. They know he will play.We just post here and speculate, but at the end of the day,we don't know what they know.

Yep. I agree. Im sure Dallas knows more than us.

-Cowboys Dr did the surgery.
-His brother plays for us

They def know more in depth

Apparently the peroneal nerve was damaged and had to regrow 6 inches or something. I've been reading about axon loss but if he is regaining sensation then that surely isn't the case.

So he is almost 1 month ahead of schedule. In the article it said he should start running by the draft. He has been running for 3.5 weeks already.

as far as rushing him back....i think the team is ok at LB this year so no need to, but will probably let mcclian go after this year. so actually will kind of be a natural progression to let him rehab and learn then get a starting role next year.

Dr said that the nerve was stretched, and it went to sleep. It's waking up bit by bit a few inches at a time.
