Once Copeland gets into TC, he'll likely experience a brand of training that he hasn't been fully exposed to as yet. I honestly think he should be able to lose enough lbs by the end of TC to afford him all the quickness he'll need to get the job done. We'll see, though.

How many true FB's on the roster?

It doesn't look like the Cowboys have emphasized this position as an integral part of their offense. So, this isolated player of that position must truly be a football athlete, and have some versatility. The chances of that happening with Copeland are slim (the only thing slim about him), as he has not yet shown the likelihood for ST ace. Might make the PS.

almost no team in the league has emphasized FB position. several teams don't have them.

He doesn't have to develop as an option in the passing game this year to make the team. All he has to do is destroy Linebackers and be effective on special teams.

It's the FB position, no offense in the NFL relies heavily on their FB as a receiver. If his "one trick pony" ability will help our running game and he can get it done on special teams he has a good shot at making the team, whether he's 260 or 290.

I think they kind of liked the other FB though.
Also, if we carry a FB, do you think it'd be 3 RBs and 1 FB? Maybe Randle odd man out?
If so, what position would be sacrificed; WR, TE maybe?

I dont have twitter and for some reason, I cant watch videos on DC.com. The videos I've seen on him he looks amazing, if he loses some weight I think he translates well into the NFL. (With the right plays) Does ANYONE have anything one this guy.

He has to be able to do things that a backup Lineman can't do. Those short yardage blocks could be handled by a Lineman. They want the FB to be a legit pass receiving option and to be more fluid in blocking than what Copeland showed in college. Obviously, special teams will be important also.

Copeland could easily be moved to the Practice Squad if they wanted to go that direction.

No way he can lose enough weight to be effective in a short time. I predict practice squad if he shows any ability, along with a weight he must reach by next year. He must get down to 260; otherwise, he's a one trick pony, and a backup lineman can do what he would do.

Thought Garrett had said 250, but when we hear about him will be when them pads come on and he starts punishing as a lead blocker.

Unless he drops weight and learns to be more than a situational battering ram, he will not make the team. Carrying a fullback is questionable to begin with, let alone one who has underdeveloped skills as a pass receiver. Even at LSU, he was a bit player that could be used in special situations. On a 53 man roster, he is going to have to be more versatile than he has ever shown, including playing special teams.

I do not get how people can look at this player and not realize he has a long way to go to be considered a lock to make the roster.

Special teams is a big reason I was a fan of Prosch as a fullback. He has experience, can block, and can catch the ball. I hope Copeland can be a battering ram though. I think that Murray needs a powerful fullback to be his most effective self.

I don't get the hype with this guy. He's a straight line-ish one trick pony that the game only further evolves from every year.

I don't see the issue with fans rooting for a guy, much less a fullback. What's the harm? It's not like they are saying "Cut Player X to make room for Copeland.", they just like the guy.

The harm is,there is no harm and that a problem

I agree. I think he's there for us to play with in camp only.

I don't see it with Copeland, but I think we'll get a better idea when actual training camp and preseason games start. Still going to be difficult to see a fullback get looks, particularly if this offense isn't centered around FBs. He won't have a ton of opportunities to impress.

He still reminds me of Jamar Martin, the FB that was here when Parcells was hired.

He wowed the fans by blowing up defenders; however, Parcells cut him after 1 year because he couldn't do anything else.

He's going to have to have twinkle toes and buttery soft hands to make the team. If all he does is blow up defenders, we can stick Bernadeau in the backfield to do that on short yardage and not waste a roster spot on a one-trick fullback.

Fans should remember - all Vickers did was blow up defenders and he spent one season in a Dallas uniform.

If I were an NFL offensive coach, I would would put some real effort into teaching a Lineman how to play FB. When the Cowboys have done it in the past with guys like Montrae Holland and Josh Brent, they didn't really look prepared. On the flip side of that was the DL from Alabama, Jesse Williams. He was a really good FB and appeared to be really well prepared for doing it. He didn't just slam into the Line, but he actually had the vision and anticipation to make the correct block.

Yes, Vickers was often out of position to make the correct block.

ahhh, another fan pet cat. I think everyone is fantasizing about Johnston. but lets not forget that that brand of football is no longer practiced in the NFL. the FB position has gone by the way side and we see less and less of them. with emphasis on the passing game, the two TE and spread offenses are what works in today's NFL>

so I am not as high on Copeland. he probably would only get 5-10 snaps a game anyway. outside of the youtube highlight videos of him blowing people up in the hole on running plays, the things I have read about him is his lack of proper technique as his approach is to try and decleat, instead of control and manage (ala Johnston). I am not sure about his pass blocking ability. also not sure how good he is catching out of the back field as everyone forgets how good Johnston was in that aspect of the game.

in short, its good to have pet cats. but I doubt if he makes it and the fantasies of him blowing people up through the whole and murray and dunbar running wild is, well fantasies and far from reality of today's NFL.
If I recall correctly the Ravens and seahawks carries fullbacks. I wonder how that worked out for them.

In Vickers' defense, there were usually two defenders in the backfield before he ever got up out of his stance.

Was Copeland on the LSU conditioning coach's under achiever list?
