Jen Engel says Henson is still with the third team

I almost hate to post this, because it will turn into another one of *those* threads, but Jen Engel reports that despite Parcells' earlier promise to rotate Romo and Henson with the second team, Henson is still running only with the third team this week and Romo is still getting all the reps with the second team.

I don't care if Romo or Henson comes out ahead, but I'd at least like to see both guys get chances under similar circumstances, which is the point of rotating players to begin with. If Jen is correct, it looks to me like another example of Parcells deciding he likes a guy better and not even opening up the competition...

I don't think it means anything right now Bill keeps telling these reporter not to read to much into this competition yet they continue to do just that. Lets just see what happen over these next 3 pre-season games that will tell us everything, not who is taking what snaps at practice.

If I were Parcells, I would make Romo the backup since he seems more comfortable when he is in there. If the backup comes in he is probably going to hand to JJ and if he is lucky throw to Witten. Romo can do that, and let Henson get more comfortable. I don't think they call the competition off after a certain point. If Henson is a gamer, the games will make him more comfortable and he be can win the number two. I don't think the light has come on for Henson yet. When it does, if it does, I think he will be the starter not just the backup. I really don't care who is the backup as long as both are being developed properly. I have some doubts about that but what are you going to do?

I don't know Doom. Bill said the same thing to Chutch when he was wondering why he barely got to play with the first team with QC. Bill said not to take anything away from who plays and how much. Unfortunately for Chutch, look what happened to him.

I dont really see any big deal about whatever happens...the only way Romo or Henson would see the field anyway is if Bledsoe gets hurt

I think Romo makes more sense as the #2 guy if he indeed knows the offense betetr than Henson as Parcells says...if Bledsoe is injured during a game you want the backup to be able to come in and run the game plan that was set during the week...so it stands to reason that if Romo is more comfortable with the playbook right now, he should be the #2 guy

however if Bledsoe were going to be out long term, there might be a different story on who plays

and finally, Romo was #2 going into the season last yr, but was #2 for only half the season...Henson was #2 the other half, and played in two games

I agree, I think Henson is the future QB is there is one on the team. Romo may be the better #2 to come in and finish off a game or start for a short stretch right now. He should be, he has had an extra year and didn't have to combat the layoff from football.

To be fair, by most accounts, Romo has looked better in TC than Henson THUS FAR. There is no reason for Romo to be demoted.

And in the 1st pre-season game, let's assume it was around a wash.

But that doesn't mean that Henson should pack his bags and accept the 3rd string role. He's got to continue to push himself and improve. I think he will continue to push himself and get used to his new throwing motion, NFL defenses, etc.

I don't think this race is over yet, and both QBs will hopefully come out better as a result of it.

It's only over when you quit.

I don't think it is the same situation. I have no problem with Romo what so ever but I don't think anything is set in stone right now as to who will be the backup QB, we have 3 more games before the start of the season and I think this will all play itself out where it should and that is on the field.

Henson has 6 days to surpass Romo.
