I have been bummed out since Sunday night and haven't felt much like visiting here, but there were some good signs.

I imagine it has been said elsewhere in the forum, but I think Jenkins went a long way towards redeeming himself for his poor performance last year. He played tough and showed some heart. I am cautiously optimistic about him this year. Hopefully he continues to provide this kind of effort.

Sean Lee! 'Nuff said.

We went into NY and played a potential SB team and should have beat them, even though we were serious underdogs.

O Line held up for the most part. Tyron played well, Free was great.

I'm not going to pat myself on the back since I could hurt myself but I never gave up on Jenkins. I never excuses his play last year but I think this kid is a very good CB.

Jenkins has always had the talent, I just think he is going to need a coach that requires top effort from him at all times, which he now has, at the HC level, and at DC. I feel he is going to bounce back to 09 form this year, and this game didn't do anything to change my thinking that.

I loved his effort, fighting through injuries and putting a really good open field tackle on Plax after coming back in the game from injury.

Wish I had a .gif of that.

I'm a big fan of Jenkins too. Now even more so after he put that hit on Plaxico after he hurt him earlier in the game.

Jenkins will be back to his '09 self.

Me too! Unfortunately Wade seemed to shrug things off and Jenkins seems to be the kind of guy who will take plays off if you let him. Simple fix is to call him out and bench him if he does it again. He showed a ton of fire Sunday night, I just hope he can stay healthy.

You are not the only one. All too many times our fans use one, two, or several plays to define a young player's career. Snap judgments are stupid, no matter the player.

I liked him in college and as a rookie, last year really disappointed. He played with a lot of heart and energy last night, unfortunately I think he's not in great condition due to the lockout, when you rely on your athletic ability as much as he does, it's easier to injure yourself. I hope he can get taken care of this week and continue to play with this level of determination.

Jenkins was easily the best CB on the team in '09. As they say, if you've done it before you can do it again. I think Ryan will keep pushing this kid and hopefully transforms into a consistent player.

Well it wasn't a snap judgement to say that he lost confidence and wasn't physical last season, that's why it's so good to see the way he played this weekend.

Going to rain on your parade, because I just don't like lopsided threads. Someone has to dissent, and I am a lifelong dissenter, possibly because of my ancestors afinity for causing trouble and being among the discontented rabble.

It is very telling that we are congratulating a player who, at most, has showed to be a journeyman player last year and now in this preseason and this regular season game.

Showing heart is good.
Showing talent is better.
One of the cruel facts of this team is that our secondary sucks. At most, when Newman gets back, it will be an average secondary and prone to giving up the big plays. Part of the fault has been that the defensive front, aside from help from LB Ware, has been anemic, to put it mildly.

But we've come to bury the secondary, not praise it, as Fred McMurray once said to Gina Lolabrigetta.

It seemed to me getting blindsided by a 6'5" WR had a lot more to do with his getting injured than lack of conditioning.

Well said. You can pat my back as well. I've always thought Jenkins could be a very good CB in this league and one lost season does not make a career.

Hopefully this trend continues with Mike. He has tons of talent.

Not so fast my friend. Just because Newman comes back does not make this secondary any better. In fact, I'm a bit leary about Newman's return. I hope I'm wrong, but our secondary looked alright, not great, but fairly solid vs. the Jets. Where was Holmes? Exactly!

Jenkins=he thinks he's can do it on talent alone. He can't. He is talented but he ain't no Sanders. He needs to work at it, he needs coaching.

yeah...all he needs is the mental aspect of the game..and he will be amazing

This player is just in his 3 year....He has had some success and some failures. any where but Dallas, flashes and crashes are normal for young players. In Big D, we like to throw the baby out with the bath water. We don't tolerate growth or the maturation process and we don't tolerate normal or average players in any position.

I agree. 1 play does not define a player. I do agree Jenkins may be the type you have to constantly pushed but as far as talent the guy is good

I did not means to imply that Newman was all that. His decline has been evident, and the youngsters make him look better than he is.

And I agree with you: the secondary was not as bad as I expected it to be. It bent -- a lot -- and in the end broke down. But the secondary in that game was not as bad as in my nightmares.

However, our praise of Jenkins seems a bit over the top. Sort of like commending someone for showing up for work and doing the occasional good move.
