interesting quote

"...Now here is where things get interesting. Cowboys VP and Jones' eventual successor Stephen Jones went on his radio show on 105.3 The Fan on Monday (h/t Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News) and sang a very different tune. He said “You can’t just consistently serve your quarterback up as a runner... I can’t necessarily see our plan being to run Dak 8-10 times a game. I think you use it to set everything else up.” Essentially, this suggests a philosophical schism between the two leaders of the Jones family. The patriarch wants Prescott to run so that the Cowboys can win now. The successor wants Prescott to stay in the pocket to preserve his health. ..."

the more Dak runs, the more you put him in line of getting hit and injured. win now? maybe 5 or 6 games...and get Dak hurt.... I don't advocate running the QB....except very selectively and not every week.

I'm with Jerry on this one. Dak has yet to prove he is the future so why lose games now to "perhaps" preserve him for the future when he might not even be our future? Newton and Wilson both run a ton and have survived thus far. Let Dak loose.

Here's the problem.

This offense likely will stall if you just make Prescott a pure pocket passer. Teams simply don't respect his ability to throw the ball. Further, teams simply crash Elliott. Essentially the belief is Prescott can't beat you with the pass so crash Elliott and really stall the offense.

Prescott running helps loosen things up for Elliott. And if Elliott can get going that helps the passing game.

I don't know about running 10 times a game with Prescott but Stephen seems to want to go in the opposite direction. 5-6 runs a game seems fair to me and likely will have it's desired effect.

Protecting their investment vs winning games. Wonder how this will turn out? Lol

Stephen doesn't make these kinds of decisions without consulting others. most noticeably mcclay and probably sources (former gm's, etc.) outside the organization. he doesn't pretend to be a coach like daddy. I feel far better with Stephen running things than with jerry running things. there is no need to tell opposing defenses we're going to be running dak 10 times a game. let them guess. whatever the plan, it worked very well against the giants.

Well, one is an (attempt) to win strategy and the other is a scared, play not to lose strategy. If he keeps posting these 165 yard passing games he's got no choice but to run.
I disagree. one is a high risk, sacrifice everything to win now, the other requires a good QB

How about let the coaches decide and stay out of their business?

QB's in general are wimpy (and susceptible to getting crushed) - you don't want them sacked (A. Rodgers) and you damn sure don't want them running with the ball regularly (Wentz) - the list is LOOOOOOOOOOONG. No brainer.

I agree. Jerry is a marketing man and winning means interest and more money and more value. he has always dealt with problem later, he always wants to take full advantage of the immediate opportunities at the cost of future. His business side always over rules his GM side...that's why the cowboys are worth $5B ( I read somewhere), but haven't won anything in 25 years.

The mentality should always, under any circumstance, be to win now. Dak is not a pocket passer, and he likely never will be.

Shut up, Stephen.
I agree. and I don't think he will ever be. I just found it interesting. with that said, run him to the ground and if he gets injured that will force our hand to look for another QB....

Must be nice to be billionaires. You can do most anything. Include pretending you are some sort of expert on football. Never scouted. Never played in the NFL. Never coached in the NFL or in college. Yet some how they are experts. I discount nearly everything Dumb and Dumber say about football. It is either nonsense or so obvious that any child could say the same.

Wealth does not correlate with intelligence. Look at Lebron James. Wealthy guy. Has the intellect of a 9 year old.

reports have shown for years that qb's are the position least likely to be seriously injured in the nfl. of course they do. but not with the frequency of rb's, wr's, and linemen. they can always slide when they run. they get serious protection from the ref's. if you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.
