There's no question he deserves to go into the HOF. Very few owners, if any, have had the impact on the NFL as a whole like he has. He has changed all the rules from a marketing perspective.

Pick ANY owner over the past season and see if ANY pass that degree of challenge...they all have periods of failure.

Name the years that Dallas had 10 win seasons, or better?

It all depends on where you set your personal bar for your team. I set mine rather high, the big prize at the end of the season. I'm not the participation trophy kind of guy. Jerry has failed miserably putting a team on the field since the 90s, that is some time ago.

I like how they say he failed in Miami. He still led them to the playoffs 3 straight years. And that shouldn't be held against him for what he did for the Cowboys. We've only been to the playoffs 5 times this century.

Well, you have to have some thing to hang your Jerry hat on.

So that's the measuring stick? Years with a SB, Jimmy HC from 1989 - 1993

You don't even attempt to consume real data, that is 11 (ELEVEN) seasons with ten wins or better. That in the NFL, denotes a pretty competitive and relevant team. Now show ANY team with more 10 win seasons over that same period of time...!

You are missing the point. What does it get you when you win ten games or more in any season? Compute playoff wins in the same time frame, better yet SB appearances. 10 wins yayyyyy.

Jerry will forever be completely defined by Shante Carver, Ebenezer Ekuban, Kavika Pittman, and Greg Ellis over Randy Moss.

No, he definitely will not be.

He will only be defined that way in the minds of bitter, angry Cowboys fans.

When anyone other than that thinks of Jerry Jones, I guarantee you the last thing they think of are the names you mentioned.

And, unfortunately for you, bitter/angry Cowboys fans don't get to decide who does and doesn't get into the HOF.

That's the truth, as difficult as it may be to swallow.

Even in the 'Jimmy' era, he didn't do all the building...

Johnson quickly returned the Cowboys to the NFL's elite with a series of skillful drafts. Having picked Aikman, fullback Daryl Johnston and center Mark Stepnoski in 1989, Johnson added running back Emmitt Smith in 1990, defensive tackle Russell Maryland and offensive tackle Erik Williams in 1991, and safety Darren Woodson in 1992. The young talent joined holdovers from the Landry era such as wide receiver Michael Irvin, guard Nate Newton, linebacker Ken Norton, Jr., and offensive lineman Mark Tuinei, and veteran pickups such as tight end Jay Novacek and defensive end Charles Haley.

But if something happens during a period of time, both the coach and owner get credit.

If fielding a strong team doesn't matter to a fan, I first question if he is a fan, or just worshiping top glory. The Cowboys have been solid...and for the time that Jerry Jones was owner.

Conveniently cherry picking ignoring comparing similarly strong seasons against the field?

I already presented the pro...your turn for the con.

And there were plenty of entrances into playoffs as well...care to do some of the work in presenting that as well?

Fielding a strong team that has the ability to finish matters. Fielding a team that can't get past the first round means your slightly above average.
You would never be able to see the con. Your satisfied with ten win seasons.

Posthumously, yes.

But he shouldn't be giving a speech with all the failure wrapped around him, along with the womanizing and alcoholism that has permeated his life.

Jerry will be in the Hall as an owner that redefined how NFL teams are marketed. He practically started the naming rights that very NFL team now uses. Short sighted thinking sees his mistakes as a GM. But Jerry is an NFL pioneer and will get serious consideration the moment he is eligible. There are plenty of people in the NFL that has mistakes they made during their personal life. The Hall is for accomplishment to the game of football.

Allright, on a pure agenda bases, which is where your bias always takes things...not to countering with specifics and real examples. Here, I'll be concise with what you further purport: The entire time that the Cowboys have been owned by Jerry Jones, the Cowboys have been PURE CRAP, except for when Jimmy Johnson saved him. Yet he only had three winning seasons with Dallas.

This was the break up of players from the Dynasty era...

Gailey era
1998
Main article: 1998 Dallas Cowboys season
After missing the playoffs in 1997, Gailey led the team to a 10–6 record in 1998 as Dallas became the first NFC East team to sweep the division. The Cowboys suffered a humiliating first-round playoff exit, however, when the Arizona Cardinals defeated them at Texas Stadium 20–7 for their first postseason victory in half a century. Jones raised hopes in the off-season, though, signing fleet-footed wide receiver Raghib "Rocket" Ismail.

1999
Main article: 1999 Dallas Cowboys season
The Cowboys started the 1999 campaign in impressive fashion, erasing a 21-point deficit in Washington on opening day for a 41–35 overtime victory. In their fourth game of the season, however, Dallas lost Irvin to a neck injury that ended his career. Darryl Johnston also suffered a career-ending injury early in the season, and Aikman, Allen, Sanders and cornerback Kevin Smith missed time as well. Dallas sputtered to an 8–8 finish in 1999. They gained a wild-card berth in their final regular season game, but lost in Minnesota in the first round of the playoffs, 27-10. Key players were now grumbling about Gailey, and Jones fired him in January 2000.

I don't think Jerry's going into the HOF anytime soon so I don't worry about it. I don't really care what he does as far as the NFL. All I care about is what he does with the Cowboys. If he goes in or doesn't go in, I don't really care.

Isn't he eligible now? I don't think there is any waiting period for an owner.

Not sure about the rules for an owner.

I don't think there's a waiting period. Unless I missed one, there's only 12 owners in the HOF. Not a very big group.

Owners in HOF

Charles Bidwell
Al Davis
Edward DeBartolo
George Halas
Lamar Hunt
Tim Mara
Willington Mara
George Preston Marshall
Dan Reeves
Art Rooney
Dan Rooney
Ralph Wilson
