Jerry, has yet to draft a WR with the potential to be a HOF receiver. Michael Irvin was the last but he was drafted during the Landry era.

He drafted Jimmy Smith.

Their record of drafting WRs is deplorable. Even if you give him credit for Jimmy Smith, it was in freaking 1992.

All-Pro would be nice, much less HOF.

Heck, at this point, I'd settle for drafting and developing an All-NFC East WR.

How many wide receivers were available at the time Dallas drafted each year had Hall of Fame potential? I can really only think of one, Rand Moss. We all know why he wasn't drafted. I don't think Dallas has been in a good draft position to select other college receivers that had Hall of Fame potential.

Obviously Jerry has not used many draft picks on receivers in general, but he has not had a chance to grab one of the big name, full of potential receivers. If we are talking Hall of Fame potential at the time of the draft then we are talking first rounders. Sure guys make it into the HoF from lower in the draft or even undrafted, but we have to base it off potential and that means the first round. That is where the so called best players are taken.

I guess the last receiver that Jerry drafted with any sort of HoF potential was Antonio Bryant in the late 2nd round of the 2002 draft. He was a first round talent that dropped to the 2nd round just before the draft. Physically he was very similar to Irvin. Too bad it is not just physical attributes that make a HoF player.

It is intrigueing why Jerry doesn't go the conventional route on WR's and seems to not really be into developmental Qb's either. They can be found in all rounds. The two things in common is that it takes possibly the longest time for both positions to develop and are high risk positions for failure... Whereas, other positions can come in and make an impact right away.

Although, he did draft Aikman when he was younger. Romo doesn't count as he wasn't drafted and was brought in by Payton.

Just wondering if he feels like he is getting older, wants to win badly, and doesn't have the patience for developmental guys. Cause he obviously doesn't shy away from risk.

Not that I believe this but just throwing it out there... Oh well, fun to play arm chair psychologist.

Well tell me how many hall of fame WR's have the eagles, giants, jets, ravens, saints, Commanders, titans, vikings, dolphins, chargers, bills, ect ect ect have drafted in the modern era?

Look at the 1st round draft picks for the last 10 years and tell me how many WR's were drafted that are Hall of Fame players.

We may not draft them in the first round, but we have ended up with some first rounders: Keyshawn, Glenn, Roy. And a young TO developed into what you'd expect from a 1st rounder. Unfortunately, we had to acquire every one of them outside of the draft.

If Jerry actually drafted WRs we'd see if had any prowess in doing so. Antonio Bryant is the only legitimate WR prospect Dallas has picked in recent years. He didn't work out in Dallas due to non football issues, but he's a stud when he can keep his head on straight.

Forget Hall of Fame, but if memory serves (I haven't looked it up so don't freak out if I missed one), WR is the only position (not counting KR) that the Cowboys haven't drafted and developed a HOME GROWN (draft or UDFA) Pro-Bowler under Jerry's watch. Jimmy Smith doesn't count because he never did so as a Cowboy.

Geez, we've managed to develop a Pro Bowl Punter and Kicker during his tenure, but not WR. (DE's not great either [Tony Tolbert once] which is sad considering all the HIGH picks spent on the position).

I'm sure it's a combination of coaching (Hubbard Alexander was handed Irvin and did nothing else) and talent evaluation, but man, it's got to change soon, because as we know acquiring a stud WR, via trade or FA, is VERY costly in terms of cash and picks.

He's not Hall Of Fame studly though. I don't know if Jerry drafted his own players, or listened to his scouts or whatever the case is.

All I know is, the only special players we have and have had that are potential HOF candidates are probably Larry Allen, the rest are from the Jimmy Era and Parcells era.

To be fair, the reports are that each of the last two years Jerry wanted to draft a WR in the second round. In 2007 he wanted to get one, but the Giants took Steve Smith 2 slots before us. And then last year he wanted to trade up to get one of the WR's, but was overruled, and by the time it came for us to pick all the WR's that were value in the second round were gone.
