Yup, a 4th round pick is a REALLY high price to pay for a QB. Wow. You're really worried about a 4th round pick for a possible good QB? And if he doesn't work out as hoped, we only lost a 4th round pick. Not a big deal by any stretch.
But if he develops into a good QB, then it was steal!
It is for a scrub and that is what Lance is right now. He's not even as good as Rush.

Jerry always looking for a pat on the back. Very weird at 80 years old. Now the team set up is some kind of advantage? lol

It's a big deal because their picks are limited next year and they have to keep a 3rd QB on the 53 for an entire season. So when injuries hit, that unavailable spot could be a problem. Makes roster juggling that much more difficult. Hope he works out, but the Niners couldn't get rid of him fast enough and Jerry was the only one parting with a pick that high.

For a 4th round pick, I'll risk it.

...with the franchise choosing Texas' Quinn Ewers to take Cousins' place. Though the investment comes with significant risk.
"Ewers is everything Kirk Cousins never has been," Klassen said. "Ewers is unpolished, daring and outrageously talented as a thrower. He's a wild horse who needs to be tamed and molded into a consistent professional passer.

Dallas could probably pay for a move high enough to do this as well.

Charles Haley trade (Jimmy Johnson influenced) - Jerry Jones subtracted a key Hall of Fame bound veteran defensive powerhouse from the franchise chief Super Bowl contending rival of that era, San Francisco.

Hershel Walker trade (Jimmy Johnson influenced) - along with future picks, Jones secured a cornerback (Isacc Holt), a defensive end (Alex Stewart) and two linebackers (David Howard and Jesse Solomon) targeted for immediate insertion into and upgrade of a modest defense. And Walker? He was one of the stars of the short-lived USFL and former Heisman Trophy winner. Who was going to start over him?

Joey Galloway trade - Michael Irvin gone. Huge hole at #1 wide receiver. Jones' unrealized gift to Troy Aikman. Next

Roy Williams trade - Jones wanted another 'number one' wide receiver opposite Terrell Owens. Bad. Next.

Amari Cooper trade - Cole Beasley, Tavon Austin and Allen Hurns were not cutting it. Jones was desperate to salvage the 2018 season because of a sputtering offense.

Or does the point of contention involve draft day trades?
  • Emmitt Smith - projected immediate starter (WHO was his realistic competition to block him?)
  • Dez Bryant - (coming back to this)
  • DeMarcus Lawrence - Jones had starting ends like Jeremy Mincey and George Selvie. I repeat. Jones had starting ends like Jeremy Mincey and George Selvie. Can I get all owls in the house to say, "Who Who? Who Who" Note: Lawrence was not a full-time starter until his second season, displacing... who again?
Maybe I have missed a Jones trade intended for an expected impact player to immediately start. Perhaps you can post one or more?

Back to Bryant. He was always going to replace Roy Williams sooner than later. Williams never lived up to being a #1 regular season wide receiver for Jones. Scratch that. Williams barely lived up to being a solid #2 regular season wide receiver for Jones. The price he paid to trade for Williams was not on par with the two first rounders for Galloway but the 20th, 82nd and 192nd overall picks were notable for a team strapped for drafting capital. Williams was never a long-term barrier for Bryant to ascend to full-time starter.

Comparing the above 'trades for immediate' return to the Trey Lance acquisition is a stretch. Also, none of these are trades akin to what Jones initiated to replace a starting franchise quarterback, of which he has had only three in Aikman, Tony Romo and Dak Prescott.

~Yeah yeah, fellow members. Franchise quarterback does not mean what I mean. Tell it to Jones already. lol.~

Jones could have bit on a first round Paxton Lynch. Did not. He stayed firm and picked Ezekiel Elliott. He has stated strongly wanting Lynch. Maybe strongly enough to unseat Tony Romo, right?

Jones could have bit on a first round Trey Lance. Did not. He stuck to the board and picked Micah Parsons. He REALLY wanted to start Lance over Prescott then, right?

Serious request. Demonstrate your opinion of Jones' thinking 'I've finally gotten my hands on Lance who I wanted two years ago and I will dump Prescott like a hot rock ASAP.' I mean. Because. All of the above? THAT'S what Jerry Jones has actually done according to your hypothetical.
Should be a FACT overdose but we all know it won't be.

Jerry’s an idiot for not telling MM.
Jerry understands cut off limitations. The player is one of 13 first round players on current roster. There has been an influx this season of those and also previously scouted and knowledge by Mike McCarthy. The Head Coach isn't being kept out of standards already in practice this very season as well.

"Emmitt Smith is a luxury, not a necessity" - Jerry Jones during Emmitt's holdout in 1993. The Cowboys would begin the season without him, going 0-2. After signing him, Emmitt would lead the Cowboys to a division championship by playing his signature game against the Giants in overtime with a separated shoulder. A month later he would lead the Cowboys to Super Bowl victory as the game's MVP.

"I have to be a realist, I hadn't thought or hoped that we'd be sitting here after the sixth game making these adjustments. … I did not want to this year go to an inexperienced quarterback. I wanted to have the benefit of Drew Bledsoe. It hasn't worked out as of today. It just hasn't worked out. That to me is a step back." - Jerry Jones expressing his disappointment that Parcells decided to make Tony Romo the starter

"I'm still so damn mad at Stephen I get madder, every day, about missin' (Manziel). I lstened to everybody,... and I'm ... not ... happy ..There's only one thing I wanna say -- I'd have never bought the Cowboys had I made the kinda decision that I just made right now. You need to drive across the water rather than lay up. And we laid up for this one. ... We just didn't get here makin' this kind of decision." - Jerry Jones on being persuaded not to draft Johnny Manziel, who became an NFL bust. They drafted Zack Martin instead and he is a future Hall of Famer.

Perhaps he got this one right, time will tell. Just understand, a good decision by Jerry Jones is an exception to the rule.

Most teams have processes in place for player acquisition, that include several different personnel. This could be any or all of the following president, GM, scouting, HC, these serve as checks and balances because if only one of these makes the decision they could miss out on valuable pieces of information. This process serve most organizations well and has served the Cowboys well during the draft process. When you have a proven process that works and you choose to bypass that process, no matter if the decision works out, it sets up a bad precedent and lack of respect for the process when Jerry decides to go rouge.

Let he who has never put their foot in their mouth cast the first stone. It's a shame that some of these regurgitated or freshly minted posts read like gleeful gossip from heart burned forum members. There is nothing wrong with constructive and reasonable criticism of Cowboys personnel including executive management. But isolating past and present comments of 80 year old Jerry and re-making hay of them is pathetic. I am not a fan of Jerry and Stephen Jones as GM and Director of Player Personnel respectively. However, despite our post-season short comings to date, I do deeply appreciate the Jones family coming to the purchasing rescue of our iconic, beloved Cowboys team when it was in a financial and competitive death spiral back in the 80s.

How has that worked over the last 30 years? How many division titles, NFC Championships and Super Bowls has Jerry Dumbo GM Jones brought to the Arlington Jonesboys talking to himself?
You still put money in pocket...lol!
