The amount the Cowboys didn't spend is immaterial because it would not have brought any new significant players or fixed the coaching situation nor the interference by the general manager who is not qualified.

It's a data point used in frustration by fans towards Cowboys ownership, which is fine. But the bigger issue is Jerry's family needs to hire a qualified GM or this will never change. A few million in player salaries will not fix it, and by and large, the Cowboys spend enough just in the wrong places for the wrong philosophy.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on
@1053thefan
on Dallas' cash spending: "I'm proud to tell you today, factually, we spent the most cash of any club in the National Football League this year on players. We're the No. 1 cash-spender on players. The reason I'm saying it in that manner is because there was a critique going on a few weeks back that we weren't sending money on players, which is amusing and ridiculous."

What's sad is JJ thinks this is a flex (even though it's not factual) when nothing has been won or even close to being won for 25+ yrs.

Of course he spends on players. His negotiating tactics force him to overspend on his better players. He thinks they will cave, they never do, and it ultimately costs him more in the end.

Signing a top NFL player is not the same as overtaking or buying out a company. I’m not so sure that anyone around here has ever disputed Jerrys business acumen, it just doesn’t translate to the NFL.

Success is all based on drafting better than pretty much anyone in history, and they fail to recognize when they are within a window when another veteran or two could make all the difference.

Because the speculation was a) blind and b) stupid. What it amounted to was "The Cowboys don't spend because Jerry's businesses are not doing well and he doesn't have the cash."

I'd be pissed too.
Unfortunately, that's accurate. If your franchise is worth 10B, I think he's achieved his goal in continuing to grow the worth of his business vs being concerned about the actual outcome on the field. Signing Dak and CeeDee were more of a business transaction to continue to stay relevant and sustain/grow profits to keep his customers/fans believe he's "all in" even though he was referring to "all in" on the business side while fans are focused on the hopefulness/possibilities side of "all in".

I hope Argentina will not cry for you either, Jerry Jones, but we cannot always get what we want.
Damn, I didn't know you were on payroll or worried about Argentina separated from Venezuela by the ancient mountains.

You guys couldn't handle the after action analysis following all games and end of season. Jerry and team are pretty darned good and directionally improving now for four years. They still need to be at an opponent.

Now watch to see if Dallas wins 6 of the first 7 games.

Jerry just wrote some big boy checks, and it’s painful.

Now he wants his ever sought after “credit.”

I'm impressed how Jerry did not throw any F bombs during his address to critics who have questioned his refusal to spend $$$$ on players to improve the team.

Just.. who cares? There's a cap.. there's a floor.. who cares about overall spending. It's where you spend it.

Every team spends the same over the long term on players. It frequently comes in surges as big signing bonuses come in so if someone wants to cherry pick they can create a narrative.

If there is a *****, it might be that Jerry is cheap with coaching. There is no limit or floor on that.

Because if you don't spend much money every year but still are up against the cap it suggests one of two things....The front office doesn't know how to manage the cap appropriately or that front office is weaponizing the cap to lie to players and fans that they dont have the ability to spend more.
