Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on

on Dallas' cash spending: "I'm proud to tell you today, factually, we spent the most cash of any club in the National Football League this year on players. We're the No. 1 cash-spender on players. The reason I'm saying it in that manner is because there was a critique going on a few weeks back that we weren't sending money on players, which is amusing and ridiculous."

The stupid part of this is whole statement is first being proud about spending the most cash of any club. That is just assinine. He should be messaging that they spend their intelligently. It's not about how much you spend, but where you spend.

Second, pointing out the critique and calling it both amusing and ridiculous puts you right into the cesspool that you are criticizing, and worse possibly applying the labels to yourself through your engagement.

Another example where not talking is a virtue.

Jerry has a point. Have you seen the talent in RB, DT room?

Now that they signed Ceedee and Dak it's easy to make this statement now.

It's clear the Cowboys strategy is draft well, retain their best players, and then fill out the roster from the bargain bin. Fortunately they have drafted a lot of great players and have done a decent job bringing in lower cost players that have contributed. However, as a fan you just want them to go out and spend on a free agent that immediately helps this team to get over this 1 and done playoff rut. Hopefully they know a little more about the roster and the young guys here than us fans :).

He’s gaslighting the crap out of his fanbase. The data doesn’t lie Jerry. You only spent cash this year because you had to sign two of your top players.

The more he talks, the more I realize how much I dislike him. He used to be entertaining, now he’s just an annoying ***.

A player is a player wherever he comes from and they are winning 12 games a year and contending this year.
Every team in the Super Bowl in the last decade has utilized free agency for actual impact players. Not waiting for 2-3 weeks and then signing random guys no one has heard of.

Henry was sitting right there. And they waited until kickoff to sign Dak to what they could have back in March.

Our running game will be our demise. But keep cheering! I hope you’re right this year.

Maybe Kendricks is our impact player and the running game will be fine.

It’s week 1.

Zeke isn’t holding up for a whole season. Please man be objective. That is our weakness right now.

But I love the Kendrick’s pickup!

It's true. Most dumb media heads and certain fans criticize the front office for not spending on FA and push for record setting contracts for guys like Dak, Lamb and Parsons will be next.
The amount we spend on our star players is highest in the league.

They spend alright.

On their own.

Lets chat about FA Jerry.
And Linval Joseph, and Jordan Phillips, and Erik Kendricks, and $12M on Cooks who they traded for last season, and extending Malik Hooker, who they signed in free agency, and Turpin and Audrey who they signed out of the UFL. But yeah, they spend money on the Pro Bowl guys they draft also. Boo hoo - for the rest of the league.
Unfortunately, that's accurate. If your franchise is worth 10B, I think he's achieved his goal in continuing to grow the worth of his business vs being concerned about the actual outcome on the field. Signing Dak and CeeDee were more of a business transaction to continue to stay relevant and sustain/grow profits to keep his customers/fans believe he's "all in" even though he was referring to "all in" on the business side while fans are focused on the hopefulness/possibilities side of "all in".
It is beyond pathetic that so many fans and pundits question Jerry’s motives, as if winning matters more to them than Jerry. Jerry may suck at winning, but it isn’t because he doesn’t care about winning, or cares less than the fans and pundits. I absolutely despise people who judge people’s motives when they don’t have any personal relationship to base that judgement upon. It simply isn’t logical that Jerry only cares about his 10B dollar valuation. It also is beyond dumb to think he shouldn’t care at all about it. It is possible to care about both winning and money simultaneously. Those aren’t mutually exclusive ideas.

If he truly cared about winning, about this team, and about the fans, he would have hired a qualified GM years ago. Jerry was groundbreaking in the early '90s. Since then, he is behind the times And modern-day gms run laps around him. He has an arrogance about him, rightly so because of what he's done for this franchise and for his own net worth. But he lets that arrogance continue to make bad decision after bad decision year after year. This is what pisses off the fans.

I would never brag about having The top paid player in any position on my team. Generational talent obviously only comes around generationally. Dak is not one, Zeke is not one, Parsons is not one CeeDee Will not be one. They are good to great players but certainly not deserving to be paid the number one spot in the NFL.

Jerry sucks as a GM. The Cowboys will.never win the big one with in the equation. Or with Dak as the QB.

A lot of backs aren't holding up for a whole season. At least we have 4 healthy backs right now.

I agree. I'd never question Jerry's motives. But I do question his abilities.

I believe Jerald spends a mint on players. But, of course you good oafs, Jerald spends a disproportionate amount on maybe 5 elite players and more waiting to excel. The other fall in the 40%-35% that remains.

The amount the Cowboys didn't spend is immaterial because it would not have brought any new significant players or fixed the coaching situation nor the interference by the general manager who is not qualified.

It's a data point used in frustration by fans towards Cowboys ownership, which is fine. But the bigger issue is Jerry's family needs to hire a qualified GM or this will never change. A few million in player salaries will not fix it, and by and large, the Cowboys spend enough just in the wrong places for the wrong philosophy.
Jerry rarely makes any trades of significance. He can't be bothered with FA until the best players are gone. He's largely inactive during the draft on days 1 and 2. What's there left for a new GM to do? Cap management? Bookkeeping.

He’s literally told you that’s all he cares about. This year in fact.

Minor correction, Jimmy was the defacto GM in the 90s. Jerry's main part was being smart enough then to hire Jimmy and let him run with it.
