I have to say, I never saw this coming. I've been right on Jerry since the Jimmy split but I never forecasted what we have now. An indolent front office.

I never thought the issues would be lack of trying. Lack of risking. Lack of going for it. I just thought those efforts would be filled with complete incompetence. We'd be in eternal cap hell not because we were afraid to spend but because of overspending every year. Because of all those going for it moves blowing up in our face. Which would lead to an assembly line of short term head coaches, one after the other, and not you get a decade and you get a decade.

This goes against everything he's been about his entire life and you wouldn't expect in his last years that he'd get less impatient.

Where we are right now doesn't surprise me. How we've gotten here in recent years has.

This version of Jerry Jones I never saw coming.
Couldn't agree more. It's been kind of incredible to actually see the notion that Jerry prefers relevance over actually trying to win be proven true. I always thought he'd go down guns blazing, not circumcised mosquitos whimpering in the cold.

For that to happen Jerry would have to concede to the fans who have been critical all this time, and calling for him to step down and hire a GM.

Jerry's ego cannot handle making that concession.

Even worse for Jerry is if he did, and it worked. It would mean the fans were right all along, and Jerry literally wasted 30 years for an ego trip.

He certainly couldn't face that.
it wouldn't have to happen though. JUST FRICKEN LISTEN! BE ACTIVE! jerry sucks as a GM, but there are avenues where he could still be successful. :(

Add another excuse some people give Jerry Jones. The man has not changed.

His GM decision-making has always been average-to-poor. It is only recently when his average-to-poor decisions have become more noticeable to observers thinking, "Not even Jerry would do or not do something like <blah blah blah>."

I take that back. Something did change. He grew more wrinkles.

It is weird. It is also weird how they are straddling the middle. They won't go all in and rebuild. Nor will they be aggressive and not afraid to make a mistake. They have the $ to hide mistakes if they make them too.

So they pay huge money for Dak, CD and Micah next. But they don't fill the glaring holes that are missing. There is no salary cap for your coaching staff, but they don't take advantage of that opportunity. In fact, they make it a disadvantage.

They are being where every team doesn't want to be. Right in the middle. Not bad enough to be awful, but not good enough to be a contender.

Then he has the gall each preseason to start talking about super bowl. They are such a poorly run franchise.

This team isn’t ran by Jerry anymore. He’s still the face, and will yap to any reporter or personality on the sideline in pregame. But Stephen is the one running this gig. That’s why it’s different now. That’s why we don’t see the wild catter etc anymore. Stephen is cheap and shrewd.

Right? Who would have thought that? This a guy who lived to take risks.
I don't think Jerry thinks he has time to take risks and start over now. What is surprising to me is that he wouldn't just give MM the contract he wanted.

As I said in another thread, this is the first time I can remember that I have little to no hope in the Cowboys going forward.

I'll be honest, a middling hire at HC along with another offseason of zero help in FA and just telling us how awesome our draft will be at fixing holes might be the last straw for me as a fan. I may just find other things to occupy my time during Fall and Winter 2025.

I feel bad for the younger fans. They've never known the Cowboys to be a successful organization. Hopefully one day, that will change.
Yeah I hear ya man.
There are a few here in their 30s whose only Cowboy QB point of reference consists of Quincy to Romo to Dak as its best version.
No Roger and Troy foundation to lean on.
For them to even be fans in the first place is noteworthy.

I give em a little room in discussions cuz they've never experienced the 70s and 90s success model of Cowboy teams and are a product of the above mentioned environment.
Cheers to that kind of unexplained loyalty.

At least myself and many others here have the 70s or 90s memories or both.
Can't take that away.

Al Davis 2.0....
And I am not talking about the excellent young version of Al Davis,
rather the older version.

I feel the same way. Last offseason broke me. They did nothing while everyone around them made moves and got better. Didnt even watch a game until Thanksgiving and then only one or two for the whole year. Another offseason like that and I'm not watching at all. Sticking with MM would have been status quo and no reason to get excited. Maybe they can get a good HC hire, bring in some free agents and have a good draft. At least I hope so

He's been this way since 2013. It was 2016 when I noticed the change. Surely you noticed before now.
