Jerry: I feel good about McCarthy. I like the job he's done

Why does it feel more and more like this is a money issue more than anything? I'm starting to sense that Jerry is going to let McCarthy evaluate his market right after the season....if he gets more money elsewhere he lets him walk, but if not he can bring him back as one of the lower paid coaches in the league. McCarthy probably hired his current agent to maximize his money and Jerry is going to test him there.

I hope that's not the case as it seems ridiculous to waste any time at all on a coaching search after the year

I've been on the fence about McCarthy. He's not the greatest coach in the world, but he isn't that bad either. In the right situation I think he could be successful. But lately I have been re-considering if Dallas is the right place for MM or if MM is the right coach for Dallas. Let's be honest first. Jerry has made it abundantly clear that he thinks he is in charge, including player decisions. He took responsibility for starting the two rookies on the OL and I will take him at his word. What that means is whoever replaces McCarthy will have to agree to Jerry's absurd level of control. I think that eliminates some of the best coaches who will want full control of the roster. So now answer the question. Who would be willing to take this job given the reality of Jerry pulling the strings? MM may be the best they can do. If Jerry is comfortable that MM will allow him to be the guy in front of the camera, then I think Jerry keeps him around. It will not shock me if MM is re-hired.

Of course this assumes MM wants the job. If Jerry gets wind MM does not want the job, Jerry will not offer it to him and then gaslight us into believing he was planning on moving on from Mike all along.

If MM does stay I hope he does two thing. First, he needs to stop designing his offense to get the ball to 2 players. He needs to spread it around more. The Cowboys offense - or any offense, does best when all skill position players are included in the game plan. Design plays to get different receiver open and then get them the ball. Don't just focus on CeeDee and Fergie, or Turpin. If you don't trust some receivers or TEs, then get new ones you do trust.

The other ting is run the football. the QB should not be the focus of every play unless he is Mahomes. If running isn't successful, the make it successful. Don't settle for throwing 40 times. Find out why it's not working and fix it. Try different players if its not working. When your running game is at the bottom of the NFL, it's you. Fix it.

McCarthy is a very good head coach but he's not the answer in Dallas. Only a Parcells/Belichick type could possibly fix things enough to be a real contender but both are well past their expiration date.

There is no answer with this owner. The hot shot coordinator who will be one of the top head coaches in the league in the near future would be severely neutered here. He wouldn't be allowed to do what he will do elsewhere to have all that success.

Mike McCarthy is probably the best situation you're going to get.

Who wouldn't love 7-10 in his last 17 games and getting absolutely trucked 7 times!?!

Feels this way to me
He is going to let things play out and not move quickly
He may decide to bring McCarthy back in a month or two after seeing how the market plays out … or he may not and end up hiring someone else.
He isn’t going to get in a bidding/competitive situation on hiring a coach just like he isn’t in FA

As another poster said the other day, Jerry has become ‘wait and see’ in the way he handles all these decisions.

It isn’t the way to build a winning football team, organization or business.

I wonder if Coach Jerry has the same feel-good about MM as he did about bringing in Trey Lance.

I have long enjoyed the entertainment value of JJ's media engagements. They are a combination of unbridled enthusiasm and delusional optimism.

This, however, is outright gaslighting. He desperately wants us to believe in his fantasy.

It seems to me that all this organization is doing is ‘wasting time’.

I personally don't have a problem with Big Mike. It's the people much higher than him that I have the issue with...
