Jerry is either tied down to a chair

Dallas is not going to the extreme in terms of player retention. They've signed Dez Bryant for 2015. They signed starting RT Doug Free to an extension. They locked up Cole Beasley. The moves they've passed on are Bruce Carter at 5M per year, Justin Durant at 3.5M per year, Dwayne Harris at 3.5M per year, and Parnell at 6.4M per year. I'd say they are getting smart in player retention.

Tied down to a chair with a ball gag or in a medically (or JW) induced coma. Because nothing else explains the complete 180 in his FA and player retention philosophy. Prudence is smart but going from one extreme to another is a completely different story.

Experience is a powerful teacher and motivator, in my simple military mind.

Yes free agency is definitely the way to win Super Bowls.:rolleyes:

Right, no reason to address ANY of your defensive issues in FA. Just sit back and do nothing. That will help get your team get to a super bowl this year.

Nothing else?

You should pay better attention. They have been talking about Jones ceding/sharing decisionmaking for 3 years now.

There's this thing called the NFL Draft that is coming up and you also have this thing called free agency which just started yesterday that has a long way to go. You always are wheels off and in panic mode any way so I'm not expecting anything less from you.

Been a lot of worrying here the last two days.

My thought is the Cowboys are starting to run the organization in many ways like the Packers and that's not a bad thing.

I am not holding the Packers up as the shining example of a model NFL franchise, however, they almost comically NEVER participate in the first 2-3 weeks of free agency and only then pick from the bargain bin. They almost exclusively rely on the draft and UDFAs as well as the system they have place on their success and for the most part it works. They are in the playoffs every year and every two or three years they make a run at a NFC Championship game and occasionally even a Superbowl.

So in summary -- Jerry Jones is starting to run the organization like Ted Thompson.

It's not a popular or exciting approach for this time of year. Packers fans have a endless selection of jokes all about how Ted Thompson and how he disdains Free Agency, however, in the end, if properly executed the approach can work.

Just my $0.02.

It seems like this is true and that is the problem, imo. We are always trying to copy someone or something that worked elsewhere. GB will stick to their plan through thick and thin because their fanbase is locked in and maxed out.

We went to 3-4 with 4-3 personnel. We went after RW11 to pair with TO, we went TE,TE, TE in the second to run a 12 offense. Now we are copying Ted Thompson and Ozzie Newsome.

We are the Dallas Cowboys. We are supposed to be the biggest and the bestest. Look at our stadium. I don't want to be Frugal Freddies. Our money and status used to be our advantage

Problem is the money can no longer really be used as an advantage. The salary cap floor is changing all of that. Even the cheapskates of the league have to spend 89% of the cap.

The status will only be fully rebuilt by winning.

This is like the 3rd year in a row they've done things this way.

It's the new way of doing business which really isn't new any more more like year 3 of this plan. We don't overpay and that is all that has been happening. Thank goodness. I kind of enjoyed the 12-4 last year.

GB did however go after one FA that cost a lot and it paid off. He almost single handily prevented us from the title game.

Maybe we sign Hardy and all is forgiven!

Perhaps after publicly embarrassing himself last season with his Zack Martin and Manziel comments (which fully revealed his remarkable lack of football knowledge) that Jerry has finally learned that he is at his best as GM when he steps aside and lets other make the football decisions.

Not if we stayed with the big singing bonuses and cash restructures. We could spend up to 133% of the cap instead of 84% of it, which is where we are right now.
