Jerry is the bar

It has often been stated by many fans that the “bar has been lowered” in Dallas. Perhaps we should clarify that statement a little further.

I believe the more correct statement is “JERRY is the bar in Dallas.” In other words success is simply what Jerry says it is. He doesn’t measure his HC or his team (like other owners) by results like winning or losing in the playoffs. He uses “relevance” as a bar of measurement. He uses his cash flow as a bar. He uses his feelings as a bar. He uses Johnny Walker Blue....but I digress, lol.

One of the unfortunate problems this has created within the culture of the Dallas Cowboys the last 20+ seasons is our owner's stated belief that being “relevant” at season’s end was somehow an accomplishment. Without even winning in the playoffs. If I owned this team, my HC with 8 seasons and 1 playoff win would be shown the door if they don’t make the playoffs OR don't win at least two playoff games. That should be the bar.

Fortunately, this can be remedied with a deep playoff run. Then the bar will speak for itself by the excellence of achievement. I hope the Cowboys are done losing this season. They are capable of a deep run in these playoffs but it must start Sunday.
Jerry is not the Bar. He is in the Bar...drinking, then talking and then making decisions.

Bartender: “Ur-uhhh...Mr Jones, sir...I believe you’ve been over-served.”

Jerry Jones: “Whuhr guh murre johmny brooh ahn rokxcs, ohkray...?

This franchise is held captive by its owner
Its really that simple.

I misread the title...I thought it said "Jerry is AT the bar"....

Jones has kept himself entrenched as general manager for nearly 30 years. He is completely 100% confident he is the best person to run football operations for the Dallas Cowboys.

So.

Jones (this will be hard or impossible for most some people to comprehend) believes he sets the bar as high or higher than any other general manager in the National Football League. I am certain he completely believes failure to achieve the goals he sets for the team himself is due to other people, not him.

Narcissism.
I’m not even sure he believes he’s what best for Cowboys Football. He did after all admit he’d of fired someone with his record.

Nawww, this comes down to what I’ve been preaching since he ran Jimmy off. He’s intent on proving he can build a championship caliber team without someone like Jimmy and Garrett is the kind of HC who will allow him to receive that credit.

Remember , Jerry tried winning championships but that wasn’t enough unless he received the credit he’s always pursued for being a Football Guy.

This is and has always been about Jerry Jones not the Dallas Cowboys. The revenue brilliance has just placed him in a position to continue his pursuit without financial hardship for a lack of success on the field.

I think Jerry doesn't have a bar and thats the problem. He's content with fielding competitive yet ultimately flawed teams. The most important thing is that he's having fun and enjoying himself.
That’s a big part of it. Cowboys Football is for his personal entertainment playing out his own fantasies .

Jerry is only interested in winning his way. If that doesn’t include championships , so be it. Then being relevant is enough to continue selling his passion and to promote hope for the fans.

To answer Bobs question. Yes, Jerry has lowered the bar because he’s placed his personal ambitions , passions and agendas above what’s best for Cowboys Football. But this isn’t breaking news ..

The owner of every team is the bar

The owner of every team is the bar
The owners of most teams set a clear, high bar of expectation based on winning championships. GMs, HCs and players are measured by that standard.

What are Jerry’s expectations for his HC? What will Jason Garrett be expected to accomplishin order to remain HC? I won’t wait for an answer because only Jerry knows what that is. I think most owners have clearer expectations. Jerry just wants to have fun playing GM and make loads of cash.

Some people believe Jones is just some weird guy. Jones is a narcissist. It explains more than what some people are willing to accept or capable of accepting about him

He genuinely wants to win but this is about him. He’s even admitted buying the Cowboys to run it as he sees fit. He’s never wanted to share the spotlight and why he’s front and center even at his age.

Where we’ve missed it as fans is we ultimately had the power to force him out but we chose to continue to support him however indirectly it was. And once the new stadium was built we lost much of our power as fans.

We love our Cowboys however much we hate how Jerry runs it and he’s taken advantage of it for his own personal passions.

Narcissists say things people want to hear but do not necessarily reflect their true thoughts.

I am interested in reading how Jerry Jones would have been forced realistically into relinquishing ownership of his franchise.

If you recall when Jerry took over they were losing about a million a month. Jerry needed immediate success to turn it around which Jimmy provided.

Now after that had all passed and reality set in around the turn of the Century if Cowboy fans had responded like we did in late 80’s with less success on the field it could have forced Jerry’s hand with half empty stadium and revenue threatened.

Instead we’ve continued to provide Jerry financial support without success on the field. Something we’d never done before to such an extent. Tex even said we needed success on the field but Jerry brilliantly found a way to circumvent that with the Contributions he’s made to the Cowboys and the NFL which no longer demands success on the field.

Once the Stadium Rights lawsuit was won, Sponsors signed , new stadium approved , blackout rules lifted and PSL’s implemented.. game over.

The first time I read the thread title I thought it read Jerry was AT the bar.

And I'm thinking: what else is new?
