Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys Going All In To Win

http://thelandryhat.com/2016/02/11/jerry-jones-dallas-cowboys-win/

...Cowboys fans are united in their delight at seeing Ware get the silverware that a player of his caliber deserves, but for Jones it has to be bitter sweet. This was meant to be his team striking gold in 2016.

“I want to be here so bad,” Jones told SportsDay. “We tried to do it this year. We didn’t get here. We’ll keep trying to get it done. We got to be able to stop them.”

Jones continues to suggest the team are all in on quarterback Tony Romo.

“I’m just counting on Tony to come back and have some of the greatest years, if not the best years, of his career.”

This surely makes it increasingly unlikely the team will look to draft the likes of Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch etc at number 4 in this years draft.

“We want to make sure that we’ve got [Romo] the supporting cast. Defense is a big part of that.”

The Cowboys gambled on signing Greg Hardy in 2015, whether he stays in Dallas or not remains to be seen. If not then the addition of Joey Bosa could be too good to pass on.

Or take Jalen Ramsey – a cornerback prospect who can establish a partnership with last years first round pick Byron Jones in the Cowboys secondary for the foreseeable future.

Linebackers Rolando McClain and Sean Lee are both formidable but fragile. Myles Jack (assuming he can overcome his own fragility question marks) could be a frightening linebacker prospect.

Flip the coin and look at the offense. Terrance Williams failed to step up while Dez Bryant was absent. If Laquon Treadwell became a Cowboy the team could have one of the most dominant 1-2 receivers in the league.

And while Darren McFadden was solid and surprisingly healthy in his first year in Dallas, Ezekiel Elliott is a prospect causing many a draft expert to question their usual concept in not drafting a running back in the top ten.

The point? Elliott, Treadwell, Jack, Ramsey and Bosa would all contribute now. They’d be part of that Romo supporting cast that Jerry speaks of. Goff, Wentz, Lynch are for the future.

For Jerry, it’s win now or go home territory. Gamble on Romo remaining healthy and go for glory. Or look to the future #9 and bide time. More mediocrity could be coming.

...The Cowboys dedicated their top two selections in last year’s NFL Draft to the defensive side of the ball. They also signed controversial free agent defensive end Greg Hardy in an effort to improve the team’s poor pass rush. Despite these additions, the Cowboys defense finished 25th in sacks and dead last in total takeaways in 2015.

With the fourth overall pick in the upcoming draft, the Cowboys once again will have an opportunity to improve their defense. And I believe they will take it. With the recent Super Bowl outcome as proof, I believe improving the defense will be the Cowboys main focus in April’s draft. With needs at nearly every position on that side of the ball, Jones and his front office will attempt to put the “D” back into Dallas.

I just think we have have more holes to fill than just QB. If Bosa, Ramsey, Jack or Spence are there at 4 and you have them ranked higher on your board than one of the QBs, then go ahead and draft them.

Terrance Williams can go. Rishard Mathews is doubtful to be back with the Dolphins and imo is much better than Williams.

I am perfectly fine with an offseason dedicated to defense.

The Broncos turned around their defense in one offseason so it can be done. I do believe that anyone who truly believes we are going QB at 4 will be very disappointed. This doesn't seem like a franchise that is ready to throw a premier pick at a player that will not be a projected starter until his third season.

He thought he was set at RB, WR, and backup QB and that failed miserably.

Still one of the best running games in the league with a top 5 runner that only started 11 games so I wouldn't call it "failing miserably". Yes we can do better but it's not like we stunk.

For all of the people in the offseason and early in the season that were angry we didn't make a run for Chris Johnson---McFadden was better on a much worse offensive unit.

Great. Jerry watched the Super Bowl and he will go "balls out" on trying to emulate what he saw. Isn't this why we never get any better? We have this idea that we copy whatever organization of the year is every year.
never one to build the model of NFL success that other teams can try to copy. Instead we are always trying to copy other franchises.

Why didnt they? What makes you say that? He took a huge gamble on Hardy, if Romo didnt go down, and Dez stayed healthy this would have been a whole different team

Sticking with Brandon Weeden, pimping him like he was good, when we all saw what he was last year vs. Arizona is one of the dumbest mistakes he's made. We got rid of too many people as well. Murray and Harris I underatand, but we could have held onto others. Do you really think Jerry cares about winning? Because he doesn't. Do you really think Jerry's this upset about not being in a Super Bowl? Because he's not. He's got his next monument being built.

Who exactly? Durant is back on the market so obviously another franchise regrets the investment and I bet Bruce Carter will be back on the market as well. Jeremy Parnell also got a boatload of cash and we weren't comfortable making the investment, it's not like he has been killing it either and Free was okay. Our passing defense wasn't tested enough to know if we missed Sterling Moore and I am not sure what kind of year Henry Melton or that DE that signed with the Giants had.

Thing is, I don't see how many of those players are really a proven upgrade over what we kept. The fact that the teams that signed these players already regret it says a lot.

Nobody said it worked
He said they tried
The RB position worked out ok, but there was no way to know you would lose tony and dez
Yes, they failed at backup QB but not because they didn't try but because they signed a bad player they thought could resurect his career

I think jerry cares about winning as much as any owner and more than many of them
His plan didn't work but it wasn't because he didn't care about winning. It was because he gambled on a backup QB he shouldn't have and had major injuries to two key players

I agree. People were happy with the Gregory pick, getting Hardy, getting La'el Collins and several other moves people were going on about Jerry had nothing to do with it and this is prove that Stephen is the man. Scandrick goes down, Dez goes down, Romo then goes down, Hardy and McClain suspended and all of a sudden it is once again Jerry sucks and does not know what he is doing. To me this is the funny part. I do not think 12-4 was a fluke and despite the injuries do not excuse this team of going 4-12 I expected more from them and still do.
