Jerry Jones: Certainly possible that Cowboys draft another offensive lineman in first round

INDIANAPOLIS – The Cowboys have used three of their last four first-round picks on offensive linemen. It’s worked out extremely well.

Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin have been a key component in forming arguably the league’s best offensive line. All three made the Pro Bowl in 2014.

And according to owner and GM Jerry Jones, if the best player on the board at No. 27 is an offensive lineman, the Cowboys will make it four in the last five drafts.

“It certainly is [possible],” Jones said Saturday. “It certainly is.”

I know a lot of you will groan but I have long expected an OL or WR to be the far and away the highest rated player on the board when they pick. I am certainly not opposed to this. Let the draft come to you. Key to the season is Romo staying healthy.

I doubt if they will, but like always you evaluate the player first. that being said, we'd probably be setting ourselves up, possibly losing one to free-agency in the future..... but the short term truth......, we're trying to win now.

I am fine with BPA at #27, RT or WR if the best talent, pull the trigger.

This team has done well generally speaking when they stay put and draft the best players on the board.

Doubt any OL is gonna be bpa at #27 when possibly Gordon or Gurley or some DT's are there.

If they get some defensive players in FA, then I have no problem with takingg another OL.

Sounds like jerry might be planting a seed to trade down.

I'm done getting upset about the linemen picks. I always valued them but I didn't value them high enough to be 1st round picks. But to see how this team has progressed by doing it.....no one should be shocked or upset by the pick.

But my prediction is they don't do it. I think they do take a linemen in this draft but not in the 1st. I think this pick really will be defense but if there is a highly touted skilled player that is a top 10 or 12 pick and he falls to us or something along those lines I could see that being the pick.

If the pass-rushers are gone and an OL is the clear BPA, sure. I'm a big T.J. Clemmings fan and I'm reading/hearing nonstop great things about La'el Collins. If one of them somehow slipped and we took them it would not be the worst thing in the world. Now if the BPA at 27 is an OL like Ereck Flowers or Cameron Erving, it's trade down time.

BPA should be the approach.

As long as the pick is not a cornerback or running back. Those positions can be selected in the third or fourth rounds.

2008 draft still haunts me.

so dallas should pick BPA unless that BPA is a RB or CB? lol then why draft BPA?

I would love it big-time if La'el Collins slid down to us. I don't think he will but he would be terrific value at 27.

Collins is a mauler in the run game. He's aggressive and plays with a defensive mentality like Erik Williams did at RT.

If Collins is there, I would be thrilled with the pick at RT. He would enhance the OL's mean, physical nature.

It is going to take the draft forever to get here...
