Jerry Jones: Certainly possible that Cowboys draft another offensive lineman in first round

The predraft Jerry Jones smoke screen has begun.

I believe this, and if faced with only quality offensive players, Dallas will try to move down. However, if the trade down deal is a rip off, (like last year ) the Cowboys will be forced to stay put. That's why its not just a smokescreen.

I would love it big-time if La'el Collins slid down to us. I don't think he will but he would be terrific value at 27.

Collins is a mauler in the run game. He's aggressive and plays with a defensive mentality like Erik Williams did at RT.

If Collins is there, I would be thrilled with the pick at RT. He would enhance the OL's mean, physical nature.

It is going to take the draft forever to get here...

This applies to Ereck Flowers as well.

I'm all on board with the bpa approach. I just hope that the best player is not a TE . That's what round 2 is for

If the pass-rushers are gone and an OL is the clear BPA, sure. I'm a big T.J. Clemmings fan and I'm reading/hearing nonstop great things about La'el Collins. If one of them somehow slipped and we took them it would not be the worst thing in the world. Now if the BPA at 27 is an OL like Ereck Flowers or Cameron Erving, it's trade down time.

Flowers is 20 and would be a beast at RT on this team. I wouldn't be mad with Erving. He's a swiss army knife, but his best position is C. Will be somebody's Pouncy.

Lots of thing can happen once the draft gets underway. Much depends upon who is taken in advance of pick #27 coming due. If the defensive players we covet aren't available, certainly an OT addition wouldn't likely be out of the question. There are enough possibilities out there that anything can happen. Expect the unexpected.

If the need at starting DE is filled in free agency, why wouldn't you take an offensive lineman at #27 if the value is there? Neither Parnell nor Free are under contract as of yet so right now this team has a gaping hole at RT. And even if, as I believe, Free is retained, he's closer to the end than the beginning and will at some point need to be replaced. If you could somehow get a guy like Erving - a Swiss army knife capable of playing essentially anywhere you needed him - how could you not draft him?

Doubt any OL is gonna be bpa at #27 when possibly Gordon or Gurley or some DT's are there.

I don't think there's a DT that's likely to be there at #27 who will be remotely the best player left on the board.

Since when are the Cowboys set at CB?

I never stated that Dallas was set at the cornerback position. You are assuming.

If a talented WR, DE or RT drops to them I prefer the organization to pull the trigger over selecting a cornerback.

so dallas should pick BPA unless that BPA is a RB or CB? lol then why draft BPA?

No one ever goes pure BPA. If they did, you'd see teams like NE or NO with highly rated QBs sitiing on the bench.

If we sign Murray there is no way we spend a first on a RB. CB I think we would take

If there is an OL available who is clearly better than anyone else then sure. If it's a G then you move Martin out and plug him in. If a T he competes with whomever is here.

That's very unlikely IF they resign Parnell and esp so if they resign Parnell and Free which I wonder about.

If the BPA is a TE, why wouldn't you take him? Witten is not getting any younger, so at some point he will need to be replaced. Why give up on a talented player that is on top of your board and move down or take a less talented player at that spot? Injuries in the NFL cripple every team to get to the Super Bowl, the more young talent you have and the deeper you are, the better chances you have at making it to the big game. Use later rounds to draft for need, pick talent when it is possible in the first few rounds of the draft.

Id be open to it. I would be fine if the first round pick was always OL, DL, or LB every year.

Agree. Whether it's Tony in the next few years, or his replacement the lines are key to protection, and keeping the score favorable to us on the D side.

If he's a playmaker then ok. He'd have to be in the right mold. We have needs to fill.
