Did he?

I think you could make a compelling argument that they dumbed down the scheme enough to make it comfortable for him to flourish against low to mediocre competition.

But against the toughest 5-6 teams we played this year, for the most part Dak looked just as lost and ineffectual as he did for most/all of 2022.

Did he improve or did McCarthy do just enough scheme wise to hide his warts against bad teams? I submit that it was more of the former than the latter. JMHO
Dak did not get better as MM made the dummied down the offense significantly which went a long way against Dog teams but as you stated fell on its face vs good teams rarely producing over 20 points.
The warts are there and no cure is available just more patsies to be added to the long list of Dak victims.

obviously the warts are the warts, but you just don’t scheme some of the throws and abtipatiok, and right windows etc that we saw this year. he made the plays. he made impressive plays. he looked as good this year as he ever has, and we’ve been talking about him beating up bad teams since forever. so it’s definitely not just that, he improved. in year 8

I don't wonder at all. He's clearly losing the locker room

What's surprising to me is how it took so long. His leadership cred has been vastly over hyped for years

He's a marginal QB and a fraud. I'm just glad the other guys in the locker room are losing the fear to acknowledge the obvious. I just hope Jerry realizes it before he hamstrings the franchise for another 6-8 years with a bloated contract
Given Dak's leadership in doubt, under attack, and in question.....then who are the leaders on this team? Who?

nobody. Leadership is something you have, you can't just get a degree in and hope you got it.
Nobody, Captain-Crash? You're right about leadership.....its skills are inherent or instilled. And you certainly can't lead well, if you haven't followed.

So Dak's leadership ability is the only one we've got to question? That's troubling since you answered "nobody". If we're expecting team results or better performances "pushed" by leadership.......we're in trouble.

I think they are in trouble. The noise at the end of the year will magnify. I think dak is too timid to be the leader, but you know me I'm a "hater". Is Jerry going to get rid of more players who question the leadership?

I'd agree.

Understand on Dak fully as you identify as a "hater". All good. Truth be told, my love of Dak is misguided, as I critique him too, but I will defend as well. INT against GB was completely unacceptable and last year I wondered if he needed contact lens. In the GB game, the INT that involved Cooks was baffling, but I couldn't understand all year why Cooks was a #2 given he's 5'7 or so. Certain routes were going to be harder, simply because of his height. (Maybe a Gallup problem caused this). And we've reserved the role of slot routes solely for Cee Dee. I think Cooks would have served better as a chain mover (like a Beasley).

But back to leadership.....On the D side.....DLawrence is the veteran on that side. Wished DLawrence showed some more visible leadership on the sidelines/game day. Maybe he did.

Micah, based on performance, would seem a candidate for leadership.......but too much "me" time & talking, now subject to disappearing after big games to answer questions or we might hear something that slings others under the bus.

Cee Dee....just left a bad look in the GB game regarding questions whether he was "in the game". Never saw that when the targets were high and the scores were good against the likes of sub-500 teams or before.

We in trouble in the leadership department on the field.

It’s a process. I’m thinking Dak will throw a real nice ball when he reaches Social Security eligibility.

How many rounds would it take Dak to nail all three (3) in a row....I'll begin the over/under at "never"

He doesn’t have confidence in his own skills to be the guy, because he knows he doesn’t have the necessary skills. He beats up on bad teams with a vastly superior roster, but when he has to play from behind, he’s bad. It is the same in college when you look at his stat padding at the end of games, while getting blown out by ranked teams. He was supposed to be a back-up coming into the league, to run the system and keep the team afloat if the starting QB goes down.

“The big thing is, we all know there is room for improvement,” Jones said. “The thing that I would emphasize more than anything is that Dak has room for improvement. And not just the scheme around him, but Dak can improve. That’s a big plus, when you’ve been playing the game seven years and you, by assessment, have some room to get better in. He did this year, I expect him to do it next year and the next year.”
Thanks for pointing out the obvious, Jerry,

What would we do without your keen insights about Cowboys players.

Maybe by the time he retires he will have learned how to win a divisional playoff game

There is really not much hope for the foreseeable future.

It sucks too.
This season provided a very favorable window going into the playoffs. And they completely blew it. And the owner and coach and every player think it was just some freak occurrence and they've learned nothing from it.

Yes it is bleak.
