FRISCO, Texas – The most important stretch of the season begins on Sunday night for the Cowboys, but the big picture is always a popular topic in the NFL.

With that in mind, it’s understandable that team owner/general manager Jerry Jones fielded some questions about the future on Friday during an interview with 105.3 FM The Fan.

Notably, Jones was asked about the Cowboys’ salary cap and how aggressive they might be in free agency this spring. The Cowboys haven’t been big spenders in free agency in recent seasons, and Jones seemed to indicate that might be the case again in 2017.

“Of course we do have draft picks coming, and that’s the preferable way,” Jones said. “As you know, you usually overpay tremendously in free agency.

Denver found some FA pieces to get them over the top: Manning, Ware, Talib.

I just want one guy: a guy off the edge. It's the one piece missing from the team.
True, a few guys now and then in FA is cool if the situation is right.

Jerry sure likes Smith. It would be nice if he could actually play.

On the free agent front, I wouldn't mind getting a pressure guy off the edge like JPP. Doesn't look like that's going to happen though.
JPP is gonna command big $$$...even with the injury. No thanks

Also, whether it be suspensions or injury issues, we haven't had much luck on our DLine availability. Need someone who can be a consistent performer on the field and JPP isn't that.

People around here seem pretty happy he isn't playing on Sunday. So he must be reasonably good. He's better than most.

He would be a vast upgrade over the stiffs we have playing the position now.

But it won't happen.

That's so expensive but they can't seem to find any in the draf.

We just need like ....a Demarcus ware type :|

As long as Jerry in not 100% in on guys like Smith, Gregory and Lawrence, I'm fine with that. But if he's building the D around players like that, we'll waste several years. Hopefully Smith will become the player he was in college but he is an unknown right now. We need guys on the field, not constantly nursing injuries or serving suspensions. There's good players to be had in FA that won't break the bank.....

Who's the last NFC east player the cowboys went after? Dan Campbell and Terrell owens?
