Jerry Jones Doesn't Expect Cowboys To Be Big Spenders In Free Agency

Stephen coached Jerry and then informed McClay...Just find me some bargain basement players like last year and with the draft
we will be in the playoffs again. Stephen has told you several times that the Cowboys are through being big spenders in FA cause
it doesn't win Super Bowls and hamstrings the team in future years. They are trying to follow the Patriot way and never pay big names
who are close to 30. The boys will nibble around the edges for bargains but, forget paying big salaries to the FA frenzy of the first two
weeks.

Doesn't mean Dallas won't sign anybody, but they will be much more focused on resigning their own guys. I could see them getting another Cedric Thornton type signing, but they aren't going to spend 10+ million on someone. They want to save that money for their own guys in the future, rather than overpay for someone another team was willing to let go.

I'd still like some DE help. Sorry, but what we have at DE and what we have available in the pipelines isn't elite.

I expect we might bring DWare back.

Other than that, we are going to need to pay Zack

Not that I want him, but what do you guys think jpp will get paid in FA?

What will Eric Berry command? Him I want.

Giants spend $200 million on a defense and it is not even Top 5 in the league. It can still be gashed for big plays. FA is not the answer.

I agree complete overhaul through free agency isn't the answer but I'm all for getting that one special player to get us over the hump.

Imagine how good this team would be if we had a 12+ sack guy on this team right now.

Doug Free is an average right tackle. Nothing more, nothing less.

With the other 4 OL, Free can be average and the OL will function just fine. I'm thinking Free is a bargain and may be on the team
again next year. The other linemen call him the "Daddy" and respect him greatly. You can't have "All Pros" at every position.

Find bargains in guys who went in the 1st round but currently have their rookie contracts up on perennially losing teams like the Jets, the Browns, the Jags....

Guys who will turn down bigger coin elsewhere to come here and play for a Super Bowl contender next year.

This is posturing and I believe they will spend on at least one higher profile defensive FA. We are so close to having as complete a team you could have this day and age in the NFL - good drafting on D this off-season and some wise FA spending wouldn't be bad business.

Yeah, for all the hand-wringing to remove Free from this roster, I must admit I'm not on board. Yes, he's our "weak link" -- but an upgrade at the position doesn't just grow on a tree. I'm all for continuing to add young talent to the line, and hopefully we can land his replacement in that fashion. But I'm OK keeping him around for the immediate future.

Never going to happen. Ware is older and getting hurt most every year. Will look to the draft or someone
cheap in FA.

I think Ware left a situation that was bad for him -- a defense that was over-reliant on his aging, injury prone body -- and left it for one where he isn't even the best pass rusher on the team. He can miss a month, and they don't miss a beat; but when he's in there opposite Von, they become a wrecking crew up front.

Fast forward to next offseason. If he returned here, he'd return to the same situation he left. I don't think it'd be a good fit for either side. His body can't handle being the primary pass rusher any longer.

This is a very sound approach.

If the team was to study the 50 or so free agents they signed in the 90's and 00's and looked at the actual production per dollar...it would be cringe-worthy. And it isn't good league-wide...especially with players 30 or older.
