Do I like they way the game was back in the 60's and 70's? Yes of course but given how players have become bigger, faster and stronger also comes more injuries and to address some of that the NFL I think has been forced to change some of these things. I also am not a fan of FA but again it is what the players unions wanted.
Those are not the concerns I'm referring to.

But since you brought those up there is a means to better address the depth on teams which injuries present. One is expanding rosters. Two , stop penalizing veteran players over10 years of service which NFL rules mandate their pay almost double what Rookie minimums are.

If the NFL is generating all of this additional revenue why not expand rosters ?

And FA I'm a fan of. We had some form of FA since the early 70's. I'm not a fan of players being slaves to owners .

My issues with the NFL are as I stated originally with the Salary Cap and this new stadium sponsorship not shared with the players union like the other two major forms of revenue withTV and ticket sales .

We didn't need new stadiums and increased sponsorship for the NFL to remain solvent .

again much of this was due to players unions. I don't disagree with expanding the Roster but back to topic what Jerry has done he was instrumental in Houston and Los Angles getting teams, he was instrumental with the NFL Network bring more games to fans. I get it many people do not like Jerry that is fine but as mentioned many times he HOF would be as owner not GM. While you may not like it there are many reason why he should be in the HOF you seem to gloss over that portion

Salary cap was put in place because of FA and I do agree with that, I hate FA it turned the NFL into nothing but hired guns as an old time NFL fan I would hate to see the likes of Bob Lilly not being able to finish his career in Dallas because of FA. And please do not use the word slave NFL players are not and never have been fricken slaves. As Walt Garrison said he wanted a double Horse Trailer for his signing bonus and when he saw what he was getting paid he could not believe it since his dad worked long hard hours and did not get the kind of pay Walt was getting and for what? To play a game and that truly is what this is a game. Walt knew that too bad many others have lost sight of that.

That wasnt my argument. I understand why he's been nominated .

These revolutionary revenue streams Jerry implemented hasn't made Cowboy football operations any greater nor has it made the game of football any greater.

Jerry has just pimped the ride to attract more fringe fans. Why should I care about fans who wouldn't otherwise be attracted to football or the NFL. It has done nothing but increase the cost to me and lessened the game itself.

It stopped being a game when they were drafted by professional teams who owned their rights to play . Sorry, but Lou Brock did use the term slave when he argued and won his case to the Supreme Court opening the door for FA.

What other profession in this country are kids coming out of school where their rights to work are owned by someone? How would you describe them if not slaves?

Again this is not about the Dallas Cowboys it is about his contribution to the NFL.

Yeah a slave to the game? He was not owned by anyone see you have a choice to play or not. A Salve had no choice it is not the same.
I don't doubt a player using the word slave. Peterson used the word slave as well during the last dispute with the owner/NFLPA. Sorry I don't know many slave getting an avg pay of 11 million a year. If that is being a slave sign me up I will gladly become slave

And I should care about his contributions to the NFL because ?The owners are wealthier .

There's a team in Houston which I wish there was only one team in Texas. Booooo

The Rams moved back to LA. Again that's about revenue. Booooo

New stadium which priced me out of my season tickets. Boooo

NFL network which means I needed a satellite provider to watch NFL games . Boooo

Oh and the Cowboys for last 20 years why this has been going on suk. Boooooo

Remind me again why I should be excited?

It don't care how you feel about it nor do I care if you get excited, evidently you would not nominate him but he has been nominated. You don't like him fine that is your personal problem.

Funny you hate the league and Jerry yet continue to follow both the NFL and the Cowboys? LOL talk about a sucker

Because of Unlimited FA they are only the property of an unchosen owner for 4 or 5 years making a fixed amount limited by the NFL.They have to wait for this initial time to make their own decisions where they want to be employed .

Again, I'm asking you how you'd describe someone whose right to work in their chosen profession is owned as professional athletes?

Interestingly some fans take the sides of the owners in these disputes. But I'm not surprised with the bias rhetoric we see in this country.

For some reason fans see an athlete and perhaps they played football and think they should be grateful for an opportunity to play and make millions but they don't feel the same way when an actor makes millions for a film or an artist performing a concert .

It's not just a game anymore . It's sports entertainment for hire. The players are the product the owners are selling.

Of course . Now is when you want to make this personal and insult me.

Again, I don't hate. I'm just not proud.
Obviously youve missed the point.

I'd call you the sucker and Jerry appreciates it.

First, it wasn't Lou Brock who said it - it was Curt Flood. And Flood actually lost the case in court (his case was in 1970, and lost 5-3 in the Supreme Court - the reserve clause was overturned five years later).

Secondly, for any athlete to liken their place in sports as slavery is asinine on levels that can't be comprehended. No slave made the wages that these players make. Also, there's nothing preventing the athletes from seeking work in another discipline - slaves didn't exactly have that option. Thirdly, the players, if they are so off-put by the scenario, could look to start their own league. Of course, they will never do that, because they would own the full risk.

Athletes are not to be pitied in any of this - they have done just fine for themselves.

Players are now owned their service is even today you sign a contract and you agree to play for that team it is called a choice. None of these guys are now or have been a slave.

Personally I think all entertainers and athletes are over paid.

As for it is not a game anymore? Of course it is a game for pay but it is still a game. It is not life or death even though some seem to think it is.

You give me your personal feelings fine we all have different view. As for me being the sucker I watch it because I do love it. I would not waste time or energy on something I did not like.

Thanks for the correction . Yes Curt Flood. I only used the term because athletes have.

As I asked the other gentleman , how would you describe it?

My point is I don't like it as much as I used to.

And I don't waste as much energy, time and financial investment on it as I used to.

Simple - a known condition of employment in a league that employs only 2000 players in any given year.

If the players don't like it they have three choices - accept it, decline to play in the league, or form their own league where they can make their own rules. I don't recall slaves having minimum salaries in the 6 figures.

Jerrys involvement in the NFL and the Cowboys has lessened my interest in the league .

There are no choices if you choose to play professional sports in this country .

I'm sorry you don't like the term but if fits. And why players have used it.

Would it make you feel better if they made less than you?
