The Dallas Cowboys woke up on Tuesday morning with a 3-5 record and seemingly a lot of soul-searching to do. As true as that is the world goes on and that means that Jerry Jones had one of his weekly appearances on 105.3 The Fan.

Jones addressed how the defense needs to play better, that Jason Garrett is aware of the team needing to improve, but he dropped a bit of a bomb whether intentionally or not. When talking about Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones literally said that Prescott was going to get extended.

Dak Prescott is eligible to be extended in the offseason and many once thought that would be when he got paid like a big-time NFL quarterback. Prescott hasn’t exactly played to those standards through eight games, and to be fair Jerry didn’t exactly say what the Cowboys would be paying him, but confirming that they would be extending the third-year quarterback is quite a vote of confidence.

Jerry Jones is not the only owner/GM to make this mistake. If a QB shows some good things, the bad gets overlooked to some extent or explained away because it is not properly diagnosed. The problem with properly diagnosing what a QB is doing badly is the multiplicity of factors. We "eliminated" one by bring in a No. 1 receiver. However, we still have the OL to blame, the lack of a Hall-of-Fame worthy tight end and, ultimately, the scheme/coaching.

It's hard to say how much exactly those things are a factor, but Prescott clearly doesn't read defenses well or get through his progressions quickly enough. Those issues that he has contribute to the inability of the line to block long enough, the receivers/tight ends to stay open and the play-calls, as bad as they might be, working better.

Because he is young, he can improve on his weaknesses some, but I'm not sure it will ever be enough to be more than a middle-of-the-pack QB who may not ever be able to repeat what we saw in 2016 when the conditions were ideal and defenses did not know how to attack him.

Extending Dak is the worst thing he could do in my opinion, so of course he is going to do it.

Garrett should have been fired years ago. We aren't going to win anything with him. We won't win anything with Dak either.

We are doomed.

Jerry is the guy that is attracted to dysfunctional relationships. Everyone on the outside knows they aren’t right for each other but he refuses to admit that. There are some flickers of good moments amongst the bad that he holds onto and makes him think “this is love”.

We are the friends. All we can do is look on helplessly from the outside and give advice that ends up falling on deaf ears. Eventually, we grow so tired of saying the same things over and over that we slowly withdraw from the friendship. It comes to a point where we don’t even care anymore what our friend does. The result is apathy.

Until Prescott learns how to not lock into the first target and learns how to step into the Pocket, Aliens will have landed on Earth and we will have flying Cars.
