And how much faith do you have that our linebackers can go from about 17 sacks to the 30 needed to make the 3-4 a success?

I'm more confident that we can find another pass-rusher there

Z I respectfully disagree with that...

I think if you put out a 4-man line with the defensive ends being Ware and Hatcher--your pass rush takes a quantum leap forward.

Now can you always use another pass rusher? Absolutely! But it's not quite as critical acquiring one if we went to a 4-3 with Ware and Hatcher at the end position.

Will Ellis be back? Will he be the same? After Ware and Hatcher who at DE can get to the QB? Spears? Coleman? Canty?

The same can be said in the 3-4...we either need to address the huge hole that is James by drafting or signing a player or by moving Carpenter inside, which than leaves a need for another OLB. Even if we leave Carp outside, I think we should get another DE/OLB to groom...you can't have enough LBs if you run a 3-4.

We go LB at #22 and this place will get ugly in a hurry.

We would almost be better off going TE. :lmao:

What about Ratliff? The lad has shown some ability to get to the QB.

Let me put it to you this way-- you have two front sevens...

DE Spears
NT Ferguson
DE Canty
OLB Carpenter
ILB Akin
ILB James
OLB Ware

OR

DE Hatcher
DT Ferguson
DT Canty
DE Ware
OLB Carpenter
ILB Akin
OLB Burnett

Which one is going to have to have more chance of putting pressure on the QB in 1st and 2nd downs?

I doubt that. It would make the most sense to draft a LB given certain other contingencies.

My pick goes to the 3rd option.

I will believe it when I see it.

On the cowboys year in review show they also spent a whole day with gregg ellis. He is doing great already.

THey showed him already lifting and doing stuff with his leg, getting iced down, riding the bike...and then leaving in his car.

I think he will be back. I just hope they dont rush him. I think it could be a great time to get hatcher, ratliff and possibly burnett some more experience in camp.

I still have my doubts whether Ellis comes back or not therefore; Going into camp Hatcher, Ratliff, and Burnett must be delt with as if Ellis wasn't returning.

What most are missing is we will go:

Hatcher, Ratliff, ?, Ware in nickel so what we run at base has little to do with the majority of our pass rush.

Whichever scheme we run we still face the same issues:

Spears and Canty have to raise their game, at 3-4 DE or DE/DT in the 4-3.

James needs to go, and that gets even more important in the 4-3.

We need a pass rusher opposite Ware.

Now we already disagree about drafting an OT, I'm not ready to trust McQ, nor am I ready to put all my eggs in Hatcher's basket.

My 3-4 D would be:

Spears, Ferguson, Canty

Draft pick/FA, Ayodele, Carpenter, Ware

4-3:

Canty, Ferguson, Spears, Ware

Ayodele, Carpenter, Burnett

Nickel:

Hatcher, Canty, Ratliff, Ware

Burnett, Carpenter
