What about Ratliff? The lad has shown some ability to get to the QB.
Let me put it to you this way-- you have two front sevens...
DE Spears
NT Ferguson
DE Canty
OLB Carpenter
ILB Akin
ILB James
OLB Ware
OR
DE Hatcher
DT Ferguson
DT Canty
DE Ware
OLB Carpenter
ILB Akin
OLB Burnett
Which one is going to have to have more chance of putting pressure on the QB in 1st and 2nd downs?
What most are missing is we will go:
Hatcher, Ratliff, ?, Ware in nickel so what we run at base has little to do with the majority of our pass rush.
Whichever scheme we run we still face the same issues:
Spears and Canty have to raise their game, at 3-4 DE or DE/DT in the 4-3.
James needs to go, and that gets even more important in the 4-3.
We need a pass rusher opposite Ware.
Now we already disagree about drafting an OT, I'm not ready to trust McQ, nor am I ready to put all my eggs in Hatcher's basket.
My 3-4 D would be:
Spears, Ferguson, Canty
Draft pick/FA, Ayodele, Carpenter, Ware
4-3:
Canty, Ferguson, Spears, Ware
Ayodele, Carpenter, Burnett
Nickel:
Hatcher, Canty, Ratliff, Ware
Burnett, Carpenter
