“I like Church, don’t know about Johnson,” Jones said. “But I am with Church, and I think that we’ll be able to, these guys, the defense has some simplistic aspects to it that we haven’t had, and we need range and guys that can run, and I think we can get that… that doesn’t necessarily fit your experienced veteran that knows what to do but a little long in the tooth. That doesn’t fit that. What fits it is guys that can just really have range and run, and they feel like they can simplify it to the point they can play those guys. Johnson would be one, but we don’t know about him, but he’s certainly a good place to start for not knowing.”

Just thought this was worth posting here because I have been going back and fourth for a while with guys on here wanting guys that are more "box safeties" It's clear they are looking for a guy with range and coverage abilities

"It's clear!" Really?

this is Jerry's version of misinformation. If you can't keep a poker face your best bet is to confuse the opponent.

There is really no reason to show his hand but Jerruhhh does this every year.

Teams have nabbed players like Max Unger right before the Dallas pick because he is transparent to a tee. GMs don't have to guess, he'll arrogantly tell them what he plans to do.

Sounds like Vacarro,Cyprien, Swearinger, Rambo are the types they are looking at.

Kind of rules out guys like TJ McDonald, Shemarko Thomas, Elam and Reid.

(If your trusting what he says)

I disagree, Reid can run, good speed.
Swearinger in a big hitting in the box guy they don't want.

I think they are looking at Vaccaro, Cyprien, Reid and phillip Thomas

Also shamarko Thomas had the best 40 in the safety class, he can run

I don't thinner rambo is even on. their board

Is there a Cliff Note version of Jerry speak to make anything he says understandable?

It makes no sense whatsoever Jerry. Please learn to put a sentence together.

That doesn't make sense?

I'll give you Swearinger, maybe he was a bad choice on my part.
Rambo is the perfect S for our scheme. He is productive(16 career Ints, which is more then double and triple a lot of the other safeties mentioned) and played for Grantham(former Cowboys coach) He is very rangy and really good in coverage. CBS compares him to DaShon Goldson. His off the field issues are overblown imo(failed a drug test two different times. Compared to Matheiu who failed 3 last year alone yet people still like him?)

Shamarko is very fast but if you ever watched him play he is basically an LB/S hybrid. He spends a lot of time up in the box. He had 2 ints in his NCAA career. He is fast enough and a good enough athlete to be the guy we want but look at his production. He has been an in the box tackler, not a coverage guy.

Reid Good overall athlete. Extremely aggressive player. Gets out of position quite a bit and he takes a ton of bad angles. I know a lot of LSU fans, and watch a ton of SEC football. He might be a decent NFL safety, but not at all a cover 2 guy. He bites on play action a lot. Although he is good enough of an athlete, I suppose they could coach him up.

"He is a bit stiff in coverage and can be beaten by quicker slot receivers. Has been protected by some awfully talented cornerbacks throughout his career and wasn't the playmaker in 2012 he had been the past two seasons with Claiborne and Mathieu no longer on the roster."-http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1737133

Sounds like he's got his sights pretty squarely set on Vaccaro to me

Those qualities are what any safety in the NFL needs. You wouldn't say you are going for a guy who is slow and can't cover.

Didnt Vaccaro run a 4.6 something at the combine?

Doesnt exactly sound like a cover safety to me, or I am missing something here?

He also lacks ball skills...he is the Terrence Newman of FS.

Lacks ball skills?:lmao:

Yeah.

He doesn't make a lot of plays on the balls and doesn't pick many off.

Here is profile from Sportsline:

Weaknesses: Can get out of control in his aggression toward the line of scrimmage. Will duck his head in his attempt to make the big hit and leave cut-back lanes for patient, explosive runners to take full advantage. Must do a better job of wrapping up, rather than leading with his shoulder.

Hasn't shown the consistency as ballhawk considering his hype, recording only five interceptions in 51 career games. Teams will want to ask Vaccaro about a few run-ins with authorities. He was reportedly arrested following a fight with another Texas student in 2009 and again in 2012 after failing to obey a lawful order, a misdemeanor.

From NEPATRIOTS.COM

Zone Coverage
+Fantastic instincts in zone, is always around the ball.
+Reads patterns well, plays very tight to receivers in his area
+Routinely gets a good break and closes quickly on the ball.
+Shows the ability to cover a deep half/third as well as play underneath.
-Doesn’t have great ball skills, has left a few interceptions on his plate.

Walter Football before last season:

Vaccaro should look to improve his ball skills and takeaways as a senior. If he can produce a nice total of interceptions and forced fumbles, that will really help his draft stock. Vaccaro looks like a strong safety type for the NFL. He also could be a core contributor to special teams units.

Profile after profile, they all say his biggest weakness is a lack of ball skills.

If you think teams don't know other teams needs your only fooling yourself. Every year you see teams jump ahead of other teams because certain players are falling.
The 49ers jump ahead of us to draft Rice. Does that make Tex stupid?

I think his good attributes outweigh the lack of ball skills. He can cover deep/underneath, reads patterns well, closes quickly, excellent in zone coverage and always around the ball. Ballhawking is nice but can get you burned sometimes. I wouldn't be too upset if the Cowboys pick him first.

You don't even know what he tore and he's the joke?

Are you seriously implying that an average fan that is watching games in his living room and not knowing which exact tendon our rookie who never played a game last year tore, is more of a joke than an owner who has difficulty putting together coherent and logical sentences, let alone has mired us in a world of mediocrity?

Really?
