is Jerry the sole, 100% owner of the Boys or are they're any small stake, minority owners with the team?

I would imagine he could make a fortune selling small groups of, say, 5% stakes, maybe even just a few.
He could make alot of money, but he won't. He wants to keep this business completely in the family and doesn't want anyone outside of the family to have a vote on what they do or don't do. But trust me when I say, that's an investment I'd be extremely interested in if he ever did go public.

Jerry also has the vendor/food business and the dozens of Papa Johns franchises

It is my understanding based on an old article that Jerry's kids already have a share in the Cowboys. To what extent, I don't know. But Jerry made like it was enough to get them to buy in.
I was also wondering of this particular dealio as well. Wonder what they have lined up. You have to think the inheritance percentage is heavily in the hands of Stephen, as well.

the family has been planning for a long time on how to deal with the death tax when Jerry kicks the bucket
If it goes to his wife Gene there won't be any death tax because by Texas community property it's already hers thru marriage.

Forbes had his worth at 1.5 billion in 2008 before the new stadium was built
Thanks. That was probably first year he made list. Anyway I'd call 1.5 billion barely a billionaire.

I'd like to own 5%, think Jerry would gift me 5%? I agree, Jerry could make a small fortune just selling a small percentage of the team.

He could, but he doesn't need the money. According to Forbes, Jerry is worth $5.2 billion dollars and he's 74 years old. He could probably blow $100 million a year for the rest of his life and still die a billionare. There's no reason at all to sell any part of the Cowboys.

Your welcome! I think the first year he made the list was either 2004 or 2005 but it really doesn't make that much of a difference. Oh and I think you were responding to @Trouty with the "I'd call 1.5 billion barely a billionaire. Go cowboys!

Oh and good info on the community property stuff!

Jerry also owns Jones Oil and Land Co and more importantly Blue Star Land Co. He owns much more than the general public knows. He's building/completing the Gates of Prosper (1 billion dollar project)
And Star Trail an 1800 home development. The list goes on and on.

The cowboys worth is one thing, but Jerry had a lot more stuff going on.

There's no way I'd let Cuban buy 10% of my team. The Cowboys suffer enough from poor officiating, much less having Cuban on board to agitate them.
The mavs are in disarray and he's too political. But to be fair it's hard to build teams in the NBA. The salary cap is messed up and the players have too much power. They should be able to franchise tag NBA guys too. Lol
