Jerry Jones: Randy Gregory Has His Demons, But Understands Expectations
http://www.dallascowboys.com/news/2...egory-has-his-demons-understands-expectations

...As Jones himself pointed out on Friday, there are no assurances with anyone going through rehabilitation for any type of dependency. That helps explain why the Cowboys were able to draft Gregory – one of last year’s seminal talents – at No. 60 overall.

At the same time, he added that Gregory has the intelligence to comprehend the situation in front of him. After all, according to Jones, Gregory boasts the highest SAT score of any player he has drafted with the Cowboys.

“He’s got great human skills and personality – he’s nothing short of brilliant. And certainly he’s got his demons,” Jones said. “To that end, I know that lack of understanding where he is, is not one of them.”

Gregory mingled with Cowboys officials as well as sponsors during his time at the course, though he did not speak to any of the assembled media. Given that suspended players are eligible to participate during OTAs and minicamp, that will likely change in the near future.

Until then, Jones reiterated that “all thumbs are up” in Gregory’s progress this offseason – and the hope is that it stays that way.

“He has great support, but he has also really serious expectation from his teammates as well as – as far as I’m concerned – anybody with the Dallas Cowboys,” he said. “We depend on him and we want him to do right.”...

The thread title reminded me of "The Secretary of Defense" Dexter Manley who despite fully understanding the expectations, allowed his demons to get him banned from playing in the NFL. I pray for our guy Randy and hope his career doesn't end like Dexter's did.

Keep up with the comparing a player with talent still, to the bottom of the bucket...then where is the thrill when he succeeds?

Dexter was a two time Super Bowl winner and a pro bowler... if that's the "bottom of the bucket", Randy should strive for that. Sometimes having all the talent in the world isn't enough to beat the demon.

There was no reference to ANY player but to a concept of low comparisons. AS with your view, exchange a conversation with a low level of observation, and that person will merely attempt to beat you up with stupidity...go figure.

I also guess that the Crusades weren't purely Christian in concept...

Or, if you at least acknowledge what I am stating or topic presented as a point of comparison, then a real exchange on information might occur...carry on as usual.

A valid point. In my wildest dreams, I can only hope Gregory enjoys a career the likes of Dexter Manley's - save for the end, of course.

I think the real comparison is with talent. Players have changed but retained similar points for potential failure. It's still up to that player to slay the dragon at the door steps. Think that the final view of a bipolar defensive end in the Hall of Fame, Charles Haley, is upon his peeing on a coach's car? Talent is what we want and follow as a fan...ending stories are written by the players. Gregory still can be very good.

A lot of players can be good, but they must first be available to play. Josh Gordon could be great, but we may never know it. And though talent is what captivates us, there are other considerations that cannot be ignored, because demons have undone the careers of much better players than Randy Gregory.

Also, did Jerry Jones really use "brilliant" here?

Knowing his expectations and fulfilling them are two entirely different propositions. I'm hoping Randy recovers but not counting on it. We'll see.

Dexter was dumb as a rock.

Prayer is good. Nice sentiment.

I don't know about, "dumb as a box of rocks" but he was considerably less intelligent than Randy Gregory.

Ok, how about:

A .22 caliber intellect in a .357 Magnum world.

A brain like a BB in a boxcar.

A couple of slates short of a full roof.

A couplet short of a sonnet.

A few beads short in her rosary.

A few beers short of a six-pack.

A few birds shy of a flock.

A few bombs short of a full load.

A few bricks short of a wall.

A few clowns short of a circus.

A few clues shy of a solution.

A few ears short of a bushel.

A few feathers short of a duck.

A few fish short of a string.

A few guppies short of an aquarium.

A few inches short of a foot.

A few kernels short of an ear.

A few links shy of a chain.

A few open splices.

A few peas short of a casserole.

A few pickles short of a jar.

Jerry's salesmanship is in full display once again. It's that time of year.

It's 'show me' time for Randy Gregory. I remember this same sales job after last year's draft and we all know how that turned out.

Now it's time for the young man to work at it each and every day and decide what he wants for his life, football or weed. Because he can't have both.

NO! He had a "monkey on his back". He had a drug problem not a lack of intelligence.
