While Jed, i mean Jerry, gave this interview they missed ol' Jethro falling off the back of the turnip truck.
What was he doing on the back of a turnip truck? I just know we need to clear this up, not fair for Tony or Dak. Make the right Choice, please Jerry.

I just want Jerry to think about the Dallas Cowboys during this whole deal and not Tony Romo. You owe Romo nothing. You're the GM of the Dallas Cowboys.
Cutting Romo doesn't help DAL....it hurts DAL...it makes a SB contender stronger for FREE

It is idiotic that everyone thinks Romo instantly makes all these teams so much better but that he isn't worth a top pick...... makes no sense....... DAL needs to put up the 3 big tents and welcome the circus to town......... wait until hey get a great offer for Tony even if it means the Draft, June 1st or injuries at TC......... we don't get real cap relief until June 2nd anyways

Not everyone thinks that. Some people think (and have thought for a long time) Romo isn't a quality quarterback but that the team should get reasonable return value in a trade. Personally, I don't see the logic in both contradictions.

90% of the talk is which pretender will Tony turn into a contender........ it is a given that his new team will improve with him as QB....... that is why he is so valuable.... cutting him makes 0 sense

Like forfeiting a first round pick......"no thanks, we pass in honor of the years Tony was our QB"

Well, 100% equals 'everyone.' 90%? Not so much. :p

I want no part of the It Makes Sense!/It Doesn't Make Sense!/You Suck!/No You Suck! soap opera maelstrom. Personally, I think a trade will happen. I'm not emotionally invested in certain trade details that may or may not benefit the team in an anticipated degree according to individuals' strongly held expectations but WILL possibly happen regardless of the self-anxiety felt by numerous said individuals. I'm cool with a release too.

Some people will say it's horrible or stupid or yada yada yada to think that way but I have zero control over the actions of the Dallas front office and will not waste a moment of my life thinking otherwise. Romo practically spelled out his thoughts on the matter last November and Prescott had been installed as the team's new franchise quarterback before he uttered a word publicly. The interesting thing for me is seeing how this will all play out. The NFL season may have ended a few weeks ago but the league soap opera is 24/7/365. :)

Sorry. Being literal has always been my self-nagging cross to bear. :( :)
Too many posters want to start WWIII over every parsed word around and you moderators wonder why things get personal and ratcheted up......'aha gotcha, you are a liar and a loser because you said CLE had 13 draft picks last year when they only had 11 because they traded two of them before the draft'

Still amazes me that people expect practicality from the media.
And yet your snarky comments on this thread are based on a question that had only one practical response.

As to the thread.... Remember this is when you take everything you read from nfl team leadership circles and believe none of it until the ink dries on a contract or trade agreement.

Cutting Romo this year is the difference between saving $57m over 3 years as opposed to $40m over 2. It's the difference between having two cap years without a franchise QB's albatross contract weighing down the cap and and only 1.

If you have any faith in Will McClay's ability to fine pro talent that fits the coaches scheme and Stephen's ability to negotiated then it helps the Cowboys.

I agree that they should be able to get something for him. As many teams as are posturing in the media you know there are several interested parties. At the same time Romo will not stand for being a backup and paying a backup $17m is a poor allocation of resources.

Agree Romo will not wanna play backup, but nothing really has told us he will be a backup next year...100% healthy...not even the play of #4 if it did we wouldn't be having this conversation. The last Jason presser he said somethin like he didn't agree with Romo that football is a merotacracy forgive my spelling, because if you look at the merits he is and should have been playing / starting pretty telling to me is he just blowing smoke for trade/personal or is he really going somewhere with it??

If Jerry announced that the team is keeping Romo and there will be an open competition at QB............this board will explode.

I would not have a problem with it. I like dak but I do not want to see the cowboys just release him and not get anything in return. romo is better then over half of the qbs in the nfl to get nothing for him would be a waste. the cowboys could rework his contract and keep him. Prescott is cheap we could afford both qbs.

It's not about skill which is close. It's about durability and cost.

Given similar skill, a price tag that is $56m less over the next three years, and age/health and it is a no brainer what direction to go.

I like Romo and wanted him to play last year when the salary issue was moot but that is no longer the case.

We get those same savings with a trade.......cutting Romo is plain dumb.... he is worth more as a back up than a straight release and if he doesn't like it he can retire and we get 12m back from his signing bonus
