He stays and plays 2 more yeasMy guess is that it'll be none of those.
Release with either post June 2 designation or no designation at all.
Cant rule out a trade though.

You predict he starts or backs up?He stays and plays 2 more yeas
We get those same savings with a trade.......cutting Romo is plain dumb.... he is worth more as a back up than a straight release and if he doesn't like it he can retire and we get 12m back from his signing bonus
I just want Jerry to think about the Dallas Cowboys during this whole deal and not Tony Romo. You owe Romo nothing. You're the GM of the Dallas Cowboys.
Good ole Garry. He did never liked being tied down to furniture."Well...can we keep him as a backup?"
"He's GONE, MacReady!"

Time to move on.I guess you haven't been properly introduced to blumayne. He thinks Romo should be inserted back as the starter.
Until the day Dallas makes a deal for Romo, "no" should be Jerry's answer any time that question is asked.
First off it is only 14mSorry but a backup is not worth $17m; quite the contrary.
I am not saying that getting something in trade is not better or that we need to be in a hurry. The deadline is the first game of the season when salaries become guaranteed.
First off it is only 14m
And B it can be renegotiated or restructured down dramatically
Either way the best outcomes come after June 1st unless we get blown away with a draft pick package for this year
He already said he would .......he would get more guaranteed money and possibly more say in his destination or role for less of a cap hitrestructured just means you pay it later. it still ends up costing you and he only has 3 years on his deal.
why would he renegotiate?

He can take per game incentives to recoup some money but if he stays it is as a bak upHe said he would do that to facilitate a trade. He did not say he would renegotiate to stay on as backup.
He already knows he is going to get the $14m if he stays and does not renegotiate. Guaranteeing him more than that is absurd.
If you get him to take a renegotiation to $5m AAV then sure but that is not going to happen.
