Running back was not an issue today. The guy standing in front of him was.

Maybe if you got a unicorn for our backfield that would help, unicorn boy.

Jerry Jones 'surprised' Marion Barber didn't play

Jerry Jones believed until the team boarded the plane without Marion Barber that his $45 million running back would play against the Steelers.

"He surprised me that he's not here playing," Jerry said in the locker room. "That surprises me."

Was the injury, a dislocated right pinkie toe, worse than originally diagnosed?

"No, it is not," Jerry said. "It is not. He can play with that injured toe. He can play with the soreness, combination of those things. I see nothing that would have led us to believe that he couldn't."

Tashard Choice said he knew after a Monday conversation with Barber that he'd start against the Steelers. That information apparently didn't get passed on to the owner until minutes before the team took off for Pittsburgh.

It amazes me what JJ knows or doesn't know at times. He didn't know his starting RB wasn't going to play?:lmao2:

Something doesn't add up here. The backup knows he will be starting, but the owner and coach don't?

Someone help me out here.

Wait. I thought Jerry was the coach and meddled in everything. How could he not know Barber wasn't playing until the plane took off to Pittsburgh. Hmm...

I guess he meddles or doesn't meddle depending upon what looks worse for him, at least according to whatever agenda the media is selling.

Cowboys lose Barber

December 6, 2008 7:26 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Matt Mosley

As ESPN's Ed Werder reported earlier today, Cowboys running back Marion Barber (toe) didn't make the trip to Pittsburgh and will be replaced Sunday by rookie Tashard Choice. We'd told you earlier in the week how worried the Cowboys' medical staff was about Barber's right pinkie toe -- and he wasn't able to practice all week.

The Cowboys tried to modify Barber's shoe to provide comfort and stability, but nothing seemed to work. Werder reports that the team even commissioned Nike to design a specific shoe at the last minute, but he never had a chance to try it on since it was waiting on him at the team hotel.

Playing in temperatures that should reach the low 20s and the strong possibility of snow, the Cowboys were hoping to lean heavily on the punishing Barber. Now, they must turn to Choice, a fourth-round pick out of Georgia Tech. A longtime NFC scout told me Friday that Choice is well-equipped for running in poor field conditions because he keeps his feet close to the ground.

But the bigger fear for the Cowboys is Choice's lack of experience in picking up the blitz. Even for veteran backs, the Steelers' blitz can be confusing. The absence of Barber could force tight end Jason Witten to stay in and block a lot more than usual. That would take another important weapon away from Tony Romo.

With Barber out, the Steelers should be able to focus more on stopping the Cowboys' passing game. The Cowboys' offensive line feeds off Barber's boundless energy. His ability to tack on yards after contact takes pressure off the line.

With Choice and former Hampton star Alonzo Coleman in the backfield, the line needs to be close to perfect. That's not something that usually occurs against the Steelers' top-ranked defense. I still think it's going to be fairly close, but it's a major setback for the Cowboys.

Cowboys-Steelers, Tashard Choice, Jason Witten, Marion Barber, Alonzo Coleman

Well, for what it is or ISN"T worth, Joe Buck reported the same thing during the game. Made it sound like JJ thought MB3 was pussing out. Unreal, god my kingdom for a real GM.....we deserve better than this pathetic sideshow, seriously.

I can't see how Barber would have done anything more than what Choice did today. I really don't put any stock into the idea that Barber could have played. Jerry might have said it, I don't know cause I didn't hear it, but I don't believe the coaching staff held him out knowing he could have played and just decided they didn't need him.

There was a lot name calling towards myself and others that questioned Barber's toughness. Now you guys should come out and admit you were wrong?

Doesn't matter-Jerry called out one of his players PUBLICLY. This is wrong, period. If anything, he also underminded HIS COACH...AGAIN.

Say all you want how Jerry is "right", but he was all wrong on how he approached it.

How about putting blame on Barber? He is one that could handle pain and tough through the game.

Sounds like Jerry is kinda pissed that MB3 didnt man up and show some sack.

I defended Barber the other day against posters who basically said he was soft, however if he was cleared to play by the medical staff and decided himself to not play............that is very different thing.

I want to hear some more details about this, but if he was cleared to play and he took himself out of the game then I am very disappointed in MB3 for not showing some balls and sucking it up for the team.

With all the talk how this team is soft...you better believe it...:bang2:

Does any one really know what is going on? Buck made the statement that
the toe is causing other problems. I'm NOT saying it is, just what Buck said.

The staff has missed on about every injury this season so I don't doubt they missed this one.

In the end Jones needs to ****. I can't recall any GM talking nearly as much as he does.

This ENTIRE YEAR has been one dramatic roller coaster ride, which started after choking in that Giants playoff game.

If we don't make the playoffs this year, then color me surprised. However-our draft picks have proven to be gems this year(looks like our post-Bill P drafts are coming along just fine-so have no worries with Jerry here), AND HOPEFULLY, after a VERY high profile year, we can enter next year with a LOW profile.:
