Gotta keep the Will man jeez all those Studs like Taco, Mazi, Guyton, and let's not forget the tons of wasted # 2 picks from Jaylon to Bossman.
Watt Watt Watt nah Jerry Taco fits our scheme better..................
He doesn’t have the sack to stand up to jerry...at least, he keeps his mouth shut. Outta sight, outta mind.....collecting a paycheck.

While McClay is not blame free, I think he has been responsible for harnessing in Jerry and Stephan from their recklessness for a few years - but, that does appear to be slipping.
The trade for Lance. Without any input from anyone other than Jerry shows this. Also, the Mingo trade while smart in theory, does not look like anything more then Jerry trying to prove he's smarter than anyone else. And failing again.
I remember Parcells saying he could only coach a team for a limited amount of years - because eventually the players tune you out after hearing the same thing year after year.
Had McClay reached that point ? That the Joneses don't hear him anymore ?
We are royally screwed if that's the case !

Love how people expect someone to have a perfect draft record. Every team screws up picks. Always.

The problem is relying on that ONLY when every other team uses free agency, so the draft failures are accentuated by the gaping holes on the field.

McClay is far from perfect but before you want Jerry getting back into it hard, take a look at how 1994-2002 went in that regard.

Who else is going to play the Milli Vanilli act and why? McClay isn’t the problem in Dallas.

Why does Jerry feel as if he has to play this game with players, coaches and now FO personnel? I guess it makes him feel more empowered.

The real answer is more like there’s no plan or direction, just whatever Jerry’s ego wants to do today.

What's there to hear this is not an SB-winning GM we are talking about.
Better said what's his claim to fame?
Will is a nice guy who collects a big fat check saying YES Jerry 12 months a year.
Good for him...............
P.S. Oh almost forgot he also carries Jerry's doomsday code bag during each game. :muttley:

Will McClay, in his 21st season working in the Cowboys Personnel Department, was named the club's assistant director of player personnel in 2013 and senior director of pro/college scouting in 2015. He was named Vice President Player Personnel in 2017, and he will continue to oversee the club's NFL Draft process and play a key role in free agent and trade acquisitions.

Taco drafted 2017............
Thanks

I agree - to a point.
Will has been instrumental in gathering all the scouts information and presenting it all to the Jones's.
They then, make the picks.
He has been a steadying voice of reason in the room. Do they always listen ? No, and lately less than ever.
Jerry has gone rouge !

Goodness.......The entire coaching staff and now McClay. If I didn't know better, I would think Jerry's about to sell the team, giving the new owner a clean slate.
That thought actually entered my mind last off-season when they were avoiding signing any contract extensions for coaches or players.

It's highly doubtful of course, but still possible.

Interesting after the draft it expires.
so if they have no interest in keeping him. Which we do not know for sure. Why not go a different direction before the draft.
Switch him out if a new HC in brought in. And build a future team together.

I kept after the draft. We still will not know how well he did until a few years later. Especially when we need impact players now.

I prefer move on from the entire staff. Or most of them. Including changes in the scouting department, as well as the training staff and strength and conditioning guys.
My guess would be because he has already been working on the draft throughout the season. They probably lose alot of work that has already been put in to this cycle.

Can't rule out will Mcclay getting fired BEFORE the draft. I might even agree with doing this. We need change of draft strategy.

Will just seems like a glorified scout for the bozos who make most of the final decisions. Him staying or going won’t change much, just like the HC. This snake isn’t getting its head cut off any time soon

It's English not Chinese unless his job description is a total Lie.
Heck, we have all heard him give his advice to Jerry before the pick is in.
Maybe you're correct and all he's good for is carrying Jerry's Bag around.
Whatever.............
You can only advise, come on snickerdoodle you know better

I fear Jerry’s mind is getting worst and the Cowboys will not improve until he is no

longer the primary decision maker. Will McClay hasn’t been perfect but he is a buffer between Jerry/Stephen

when it relates to player acquisition.

I've liked McClay since he was the head coach for the Dallas desperado's. I believe his staff has done a good job drafting players overall but they seem to need help identifying DT talent. Even then I suspect some of those DT issues stems from Jerry wanting guys who can rush the passer like Donald and not consider guys who focus on stopping the run as a priority.

As the great Master Yoda once said.. This is why you fail.
Those aren’t bad drafts. Allot of names from that list are still in the NFL.

....Idk, the stigma is real. As others say, roll the dice, get someone else in there.
