Smart move. While fans want to trade him for defensive help right now, imagine if they traded him and then we lose an offensive lineman for the season in week 6. At that point, maybe one or two of our young guys on the DL has risen up and we also have Lawrence back on the defense. Most fans would be wishing we had kept Leary then.

I wish we knew what the offers were, hard to judge without knowing this.

They don't have a good track record of getting anything for players, rather they tend to die on the vine after their contract is up. Strikes me as a function of jeri's over optimistic nature and the fear that the next "gusher" is just about to blow.

They also seem really reticent to cut players loose for some reason. Keeping Hardy for the last 1/4 of last season after the tirade on Garrett (& other stunts) is mystifying to me considering the contract gave the team the flexibility to cut him and keep the cap savings in the process.

I find it very frustrating to watch, especially when we see a team like the Eagles pull off an unbelievable array of trades in the last 12 months

Without knowing the particulars of the offers, it's impossible to know if Jerry was right or not to turn them down.

I do know that we are probably going into the season with perhaps the worst set of DE's in the league. If Leary would be traded for an upgrade at that position, I would be very interested.

I do as well. Keeping Leary provides quality depth for the offensive line. Any truly valuable offer should have substantially offset the risk of losing Leary but tweets (or Jones' comments on the radio show in this case) rarely include relevant details.

This news doesn't surprise me at all. Actually the opposite would have. The only thing I want to know if what they do (if anything) with Leary after this season other than a token offer.

I guess they could collect a supp pick once he walks anyhow.

I'm torn on trading Leary. On one hand, he is a starting quality backup and adds great depth should a lineman go down (Martin or Collins). On the other hand, he is leaving here next season and will likely sign with the Skins (a division rival maker their line stronger) because of Callahan and the money they will pay him.

I love the depth he provides although he seems to continue to battle groin injuries of late (that was the cause of him missing time last season and enabled Collins to permanently unseat him at LG). I might move him before the trade deadline and get a player or compensation for him plus that dictates where he lands meaning the Skins will have to go elsewhere to upgrade their OL.

That can happen anytime at any position

Imagine if we had 1 real DE starting for us.....

This FO takes idiotic risks like using second Rd picks for players who may never play again but won't trade a back up to get a starter

Well from my perspective, if an OL goes down, you have enough bodies to shuffle some guys around and still field a pretty strong OL. The DL is a question right now. So if I could get a legit defensive end or LB for Leary, I would strongly consider it, especially if we see in the early season that the risks they took at DE aren't paying off.

for starters, we'd only care if it were Collins or Martin to go down, Leary does not help if any of the other three linemen go down. Second, even if a d-lineman emerges, we aren't so full of talent that we can't still benefit from them (probably more of a benefit than Leary due to unit strength). Third, if it were up to me, take the draft pick, we aren't likely to get a similar quality player, because teams can use a third d-lineman easier than a third guard. *If* Collins or Martin go down, I don't think the extra win or so going from Leary to Looney or even Mackenzie Bernadeau (think he's available still) isn't worth a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I feel bad for nfl players. You wouldnt hear crap like this in baseball or hockey...because their players associations have a spine. Coming right out and saying youve had an opportunity for a guy to advance their career but chose against it just sucks.

That said...Im glad theyre holding him haha.
