Trade deadline might be a good time. He is gone after this year anyway.

If, in fact, we were offered a starter for Leary. The offers very well could have been 5th or 6th rounders. In that case you keep Leary all day long. A lack of details make this a fool's game when deciding what should or shouldn't have been done with Leary. Anyone speculating that we should have sent Leary packing is an idiot for speculating without a single detail (not saying that's you, BTW).
 
Nobody offered much, I'm sure. But if another team suffers a bad injury in the next week or two, then suddenly they'll be willing to pay what Dallas wants.

Can't we (transition) tag him again this year? If so, I'd give him a 3rd round tender and see what other teams offer. If they offer a 4th, jump on it.

For all we know, Minnesota could have been one of the teams willing to deal. If they were turned down, I would assume it was because they low-balled us on the offer.

He is a unrestricted free agent after this year. He will get his payday elsewhere.
 
He's much more valuable to a road grading offensive line in a season with a rookie QB and RB than the 4th or later picks they were probably offered.

No one is trading pass rushers, good starters, or high picks for a non pro bowl caliber guard. Especially one that still has teams concerned about the knee or whatever it was that dropped him out of the draft. Not sure if they ever gave a conclusive diagnosis, but it was my understanding the timeframe for him to play at an NFL level is just a shrug and "who knows".

You aren't getting prime real estate for that.

Not many teams are going to be offering a starter quality player for a guard and then have to pay him and they sure aren't offering a starter quality pass rusher. If a team loses a player and gets desperate you might get a mid rnd pick for him or some disgruntled player wanting a new contract. Not having a contract beyond this year really hurts his value

We would we awesome if we had a Khalil Mack or Von Miller on one side and Lawrence on the other. A true #1 DE. Every team needs one ( although some don't have one). It's kinda like having a true #1 receiver. It's important.

Well unfortunately, for other teams, we're in the market for a starting quality player or mid round draft pick. If you don't have the goods, we don't have a deal. And I get where you're coming from but if the length of a future deal is the hold up, then that's silly. They could sign Leary to a long term deal (like he wants) just as easily as we could (once a trade was in place). Set contract parameters, run the numbers by Leary and his agent, and presto. Done deal. Trade consummated.

He's worth more to us now than a 5th or 6th round pick (who's likelihood to make the team in the first place is slim). If all we are going to garner is a garbage pick in the next draft, I'll pass (obviously Jerry will, too).

I wouldn't let whatever the eagles do get me down. Remember last year when they were making all kinds of trades and moves that the "experts" were raving about? They were calling them geniuses and even picking them to go to the superbowl.

I think the Eagles are gonna be pretty horrible this year. I see them being a 3-4 win team. If Wentz is the real deal and they hit on some of the draft picks they've acquired they can have a bright future, but I see them being pretty awful this year. I think our biggest threats will be the Giants and Skins. I see them both being 8-9 win teams.
