You have a point there.

I remember BP saying that Tice calls him on occasion for advice and BP always lends his ear because many coaches used to do it for him when he was a young coach.
 
hopefully zim and payton leave, we get a real 3-4 expert dc and a more creative good OC.

The whole point of my post was we my well be on the cusp of a complete turnover on the top of our coaching staff, and folks here talk about it like you just swap in a new hard drive. We may well have signifcant health problems in our organization that will impact us for years to come. Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it.

You know, I don't like some stuff about Zimmer -- especially his lack of aggressiveness (though I can understand it when your CBs are dinged). But I do think that we've got to give the guy credit for fielding a good 3-4 D -- usually that transition takes a full season -- we did it well with an coordinator who had zero experience with the scheme and a litany of injuries to the 4's. The reason the Rams like him is that they run a defense scheme similar to ours before this year

If Zimmer had an ounce of personality, he'd be a head coach in this league. He and Payton will get interview soon - mostly because it gives teams looking something to do before Ron Rivera, Gregg Williams, etc. can interview.

My bet is that Petyon gets the Raider job this time. Zimmer probably needs to consider coaching college.

Winning (at least some) and turning the organization around has changed that perception at least.

Were you to get your wish, I think you would rue the day! There is a lot of modestly informed speculation that BP will not return. You had better hope we keep some continuity in the OC and DC positions!

Sorry again I must have misunderstood the question...I will try to answer it this time...I think continuity is important in most cases...but I do not see a major need in it now...we are only one year into the 3-4 so not a major set back there and the offense needs to be blown up anyway imho so no lose there... I think it would be more beneficial to have a long term coaching prospect with a plan...than a short term coach with a quick fix/short-term offense in mind...

Let me give you a specific case. Over the next month, BP retires (or decides the grass is greener in Detroit). Zimmer gets the HC job in Oakland and the Texans hire Payton. That would be OK with you, right?

I think that scenario is a disaster and we give up any hope of the playoffs for 3 plus years. Without any continuity, we take huge steps backward and our record drops back into the 6-10 range. Our next season schedule is a killer. Who will manage the draft? You want to go back to Jerry Jones managing that process?

I suppose you could hold up the Gruden/Dungy situation in TB as an example of how a transition could work well. I think a much more probable result is a poor transition like Sherman/Holmgren.

Respectfully, I disagree with your logic and I think the consequences of following your ideas would be a colossal mistake for the organization. There is a lot of discussion going on to fire this guy or get rid of that guy, but I have some real fear of what is going to happen over the next month at Valley Ranch.

Understood but if it happens, it happens. No crying in baseball and that probably holds for the NFL as well. I understand what your saying but it makes little difference. It is what it is.

I can appreciate your anxieties friend...but where you see potential trouble I see potential prosperity...there is no garantee that Bledsoe, Key, Glenn, Rivera, Campbell, Allen, Flo are gonna play another 3 years what good is continuity if those players are either retired or can't play up to standards...

so even if one of the coordinators took over... the offense is likely to be in flux over the next 3 years anyway... so this is an ideal time to start a new

Blow up as much of the offense as can be done the first and 2nd year gel the 3rd and be ready to go in year 4...if it can be done sooner so much the better but now you have a coach(s) and a team built for long term success

Doesn't matter. We went through this last year and the year before. The end of the season and everyone was speculating if BP and JJ could still get along.

This year is no different.
 
All I ask is for someone to take Zimmer.... That will solve our defense problems.

Hey, might as well take Payton with you. Could use a more creative OC next year.

Our receivers are old, keep Glenn and Crayton, get Curtis who he knows well and add another through Draft.......
 
It would be cool to have Dom Capers and Norv Turner as DC and OC next season.
 
Parcells is not going to spend all this time in Dallas only to start over with inferior talent and support in Detroit. That is the dumbest rumor I've heard yet and I'm sure it'll be repeated over and over until Detroit hires another Millen crony.
 
I heard today that Detroit has twenty FA or RFa they need to sign. Who would want to walk into that mess? Ofcourse that could be why Millen would shoot for the stars. A big name coach might make it eiaser to sign all those players.

This isn't about receivers. Their offensive philosophies are 100% opposite.

Parcells builds his team around the running game. Martz thinks running plays are those things you do to rest your QB's arm once in a while.

Won't happen.
