That was a giant red herring.

'I don't hire a GM because he's an unnecessary middle man'. He never said why though except that he has the final decision.

Seriously, Jerry? You hire another person because you need a GM that knows football.
In business, and the Cowboys are a business, I was taught to surround myself with people that are smarter than me, especially at my weak spots. A great leader has to know when to swallow his false pride and bring in experts to truly reach the highest level.

I’ve got 40 years invested as a fan, there are way more important things than this but it’s difficult to just pull away from it. I’m sure at some point this lunatic will drive me away mercifully.

Assuming the new person would be as incompetent as gm jerry, his argument makes sense. But the idea is not to hire incompetent buffoons like himself.
