In business, and the Cowboys are a business, I was taught to surround myself with people that are smarter than me, especially at my weak spots. A great leader has to know when to swallow his false pride and bring in experts to truly reach the highest level.
But you’re assuming he’s interested in owning a team if he can’t play with his own ball.

Jerry sees himself as buying the right to be a celebrity football guy.

I am waiting to hear and read all the complaints when Garrett is given a new contract, it’s going to be hilarious!! I love to laugh and I will be eating my expensive steak dinner that I will win because I have a bet that Garrett is not going anywhere. Have y’all noticed that Garrett does not look bothered by all the talking, ? Because Jerry has already assured him he will get a new contact.
Oh we will be hoisting our 6th Lombardi trophy in February
Uh, is this sarcasm? Because if it isn’t you’re either high or deluded.

To believe after nine years of head coaching futility amounting to two total playoff wins (none of which was due to his coaching), that a 6-7 team would make a run this year to win the the Super Bowl (requiring four playoff wins in one season) doesn’t just border on delusional insanity. It is such.

I think he does get it and doesn’t care. He just pleas to the public to hold their attention while promoting his product.

Ultimately it’s on the fans to hold his feet to the fire.
If you listen to what he's saying, he really doesn't understand what GMs do on other teams. Its not about approving ideas. Its about having ideas.

He’s just pleading publicly. Nothing has ever changed.

And if we bounce back next year fans will be applauding him again like we have in recent years for better decisions, etc.

I don’t hold Jerry responsible. He clearly has defined his intentions. It’s up to the fans to hold him directly accountable.

And there’s only one thing that will get his attention. The same thing I’ve been advocating ever since I stepped foot on these forums over 12 years ago.

Only problem I’ve ever had with Jerry is his coaching hires outside of Jimmy and Bill.

Those decisions are major reasons why this team hasn't sniffed a championship game since the 90s. No GM keeps his job this long with that track record, unless he's Jerry Jones.

You are very astute in your observation my friend.

My minor at UT was in Psychology and you are 100% correct that past events shape our future, especially events from growing up. If a person was abused as a child for example, they may have problems having relationships as adults for fear of being abused again. Or the opposite can even happen, you seek out relationships that are abusive to reinforce your self image from childhood that you deserve it. If something very emotionally devastating happens, it can cause irrational thinking and impact your decision making every decades later.

If Jerry was rejected or shunned by his father then "the snub" where Jimmy Johnson and others rejected or shunned him could have retriggered those very powerful emotions and that is why he is so hell bent on proving to everybody that he is a "football guy", even if we have 25 years of failure that shows otherwise. To Jerry, stepping back and hiring a gym would validate those that shunned him or mocked him and would be very emotionally devastating for him to accept. You could see some of this in his erratic behavior this week, crying after games, talking about redemption, being extremely irritable and cussing like a sailor on the raido, ect….

You have to understand the mind of Jerry in order to understand his actions and decisions he makes, it does not all happen in a vacuum.

Or, he's just an egomaniac, but tell us more about these deep psych 101 insights. :lmao2:

There is no point trying to understand Jerry, Its a dead end road. At the end of the day, results are all that matter in football. I could care less if his daddy wasn't kind to him. Its never stopped him from succeeding at anything else.

Basically he is saying even if there were a GM he still wants to decision made by him. So you can say he has a point.

I guess personally I have no problem with that. All what I ask for is for him to step back from football matters and hand the HC all the keys. No pre/post game press conferences, no radio shows/interviews, and no contact with players unless HC asks for him to be signed.

If a divisional round butt whooping is cause for applause, there is no hope here. But that's kinda your mantra

Jerry's ego is his worst enemy. It's terribly damaging to his team that this is the case. Very few believe he's worthy of being Dallas' GM and I'm certainly among those who think so. Unfortunately, he's willing to sacrifice the good of the team to feed his overinflated ego. Too bad.

He'd be doing his organization and his team a big favor if he finally stepped down and hired another to serve as GM in his stead. Sadly, it surely appears inevitable that such a thing won't come to pass. I often wonder if Jerry might one day pass on, regretting his stubborn stand upon micromanaging his team as its GM. I think he'd better think about that very objectively, before it's just too late.

JJ needs to pay someone to do the job but keep the title for himself. Thought maybe he was doing that.

He shouldn't be GM because he's no good at it.

This x10. He had the poor judgment to stick with Lacewell through how many laughable drafts? He needs someone to buffer his sentimentalities.

He also makes decisions about countless other things related to team, stadium, ownership group,

You can’t be the General AND the Quartermaster.

What other owner is on the radio and answers questions in interviews DAILY?!?!?!
Excellent question. Every franchise owner has wealth, an ego and greed. All 32.

So, why is it that all of them do not welcome or want the media cornering them for quotes? Why is it that every owner does not both self-assign themselves the extra title of general manager and aggressively act like the latter? Or give themselves the title of President like a cherry on top? And why does not every owner have a weekly radio or television show segment dedicated to them?

One might conclude Jerry Jones' mentality is atypical of the established norm. Perhaps one might deduce he is not the way he is just simply because he has money, ego and greed.

nah. Scratch that last part. Old Jerruh's just another guy who is stubborn. That is the popularly held and accepted view, so it must be true. It would logically explain why his mindset has been stuck in neutral for thirty straight freaking years and counting. You know. Because that is how the usual person with money, ego and greed acts.

Want another spoiler? When Jerry dies, his kids will continue the same narcissism their dad displayed for 20 something years.
That is a logical conclusion some people have not wrapped their minds around, likely because they do not acknowledge the narcissism demonstrated practically every week for three decades by their father.

In the aspect of seeking and acquiring talent Jerry has done so, although, there are other GM duties that he hasn't relinquished to Will McClay. I refer to duties like building the remainder of the personnel department and formulating better operating methods of scouting. Also, dealing with unresolved player problems. I'd like nothing better than to see that happen but unfortunately, that's not apparently in the cards. Naming McClay as the official GM might serve to help in correcting that discrepancy.

What separates Jerry from the other owners is he bought a NFL team because he wanted to be a Football Guy. Not just an owner. This wasn’t just an investment. This was a way of life he wanted.

This passion started early in his life like many of his college teammates. Remember Jerry tried to buy the Chargers in the late 60’s but couldn’t pull it off financially not wanting partners who could interfere with the control he was pursuing.

The difference with Jerry is he didn’t want to be held directly accountable like HC or GM’s are. He wants the celebrity status associated with being a HC but not in a position to be removed .
