-Finding guys in the 4th and later are the guys that create value for the organization, otherwise you have to tender and keep investing in high profile free agents.

-Finding young players in college that are late round pick or college free agents bring us a lot of flexibility in the salary cap. It also brings in young hungry guys to battle with more complacent members of our roster in positions we are looking to upgrade.

-This draft is a tremendous opportunity

Jerry
-One reason we made the Roy Wi11iams trade was to stay out of the first round. We were concerned with this draft, especially at the bottom of the first - where we expected to be. We called our scouts, and looked ahead and felt this was not the year to sign a guy that may have signing issues.

-This year is going to be a real challenge in the first round.

Gotta run to class. Have liked everthing I've heard so far.

Jerry said you "cant have an offensive line made up of the most expensive free agents. Especially when you pay high money for other players on the team like WR.... How do you fix that? You have to take a draft like this and with your 2nd 3rd or 4th draft a guy who will take Flozell's place or Columbo's place."

Now talk about how impressed we are about Kitna. Makes a joke about Brad Johnson saying "we had 1 quarterback who was hurt and another who played like they were hurt." After media laughs he says "be good to him, hes a good guy."

And Jerry was right about that. There's really no one besides Oher that I like at that 20 pick. I'd rather have Roy Williams than any of them. They did their homework fosho!

Jerry threw Brad Johnson under the bus. He was talking up Kitna on how he's better than they expected and then mentioned last year having one hurt and the one in the game was playing like he was hurt. Ouch!

Jerry says Draft picks are at a premium and worth the most at the draft and players are worth the least at the draft. So he says a player trade during the draft is a 'reach.'

(comment: I am assuming this is why there's so much difficulty finding trade partners for Bolden or Edwards right now)

THis draft has been known to be weak for a while so getting Roy for our first this year was a really good deal. If Roy was coming out of college this year he would be at worst a top 5 pick.

looks like Jerry is targeting an OL in the 2nd round. I think our man in Duke Robinson. Jerry was talking about how you can find great players high on your board still available in the 2nd round, then he used Flozell and Gurode as the only examples. Duke Robinson in the 2nd and Darcel McBeth in the 3rd.

Clarence asks how many #1 picks do you have on your draft board? Jerry says I don't want to lie to you. Clarence says something 'like you have before'. laughs

question about union contract negotiation... Thanks Buzzkillington

And there is a better chance that Oher goes in the TOP 10 than there is that Oher would make it to #20 anyway.....

Jerry says the lower you get in the draft the more you look at special teams ability of the player.

Steven agrees how special teams is a factor and players get 'stars' when they are exceptional special teamers.

They also mentioned earlier a Red tag next to name means player is rejected by medical staff. I cant remember what yellow flag ment.

Music to my ears. That is one area that I think this team needs to invest resources in: competition. It was something I don't think was even in play last year. We had too many well-paid and very content players on the roster. That is why I am all in favor of spending every last draft choice to devote to creating that environment. I hope this means we are serious about doing so.

Amazing how we keep adding rationalizations after the fact. Now it is about finances.

I wouldn't mind it if it played out like that.

Jerry just meowed twice.

MEOW MEOW

Says you shouldn't mix coaches and scouts or you will have pet cats.

Now says a coach can have a fetish for positions.

I'll give you an example...a fetish for Tight Ends

Media laughs... Jerry says 'your really bad.'

its a very good listen, im sure they will have a podcast of the interview after awhile,

talked again about having players in the lower rounds that can play special teams;

and that they seem to think they can find players in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds

if you noticed too, thats what i have been pointing to over in the draft section,

after first 16 to 18 picks, it falls off to 21st pick to about the 60th pick, then it falls off again;

thats where we need to be focused in the 2nd to top of 5th round and load up in those areas

jerry also talked about using logic of not reaching in the draft, and getting players in lower rounds if you have too, compared to the money that you pay

I've bashed Jerry in the past, but I totally agree with this line of reasoning, didn't even need Jerry to point it out to me, it seemed they really did their homework

Im just concerned about the contract we gave Roy Will, he better start doing something

thats what you need to do in the nfl, take best player available
