Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, when asked if the victory vindicated Wade Phillips, said:

``I wouldn't necessarily describe this as vindication. We have one win in the first round of the playoffs. Our goals are much bigger than winning the first game. That's just being dead honest with you. We have a lot left that we want to accomplish. This is just the tip of the iceberg for us.''

Amidst all the celebratory, back-patting, we-can-breathe-now comments last night, who would have thought Jerry (the king of hyperbole) would be the one to make such a profound, cautious, accurate assessment of where the team is now.

While DMN columnists and ESPN doubters are swooning over Wade and this team (much to many's surprise), it's amazing to me that Jerry is the one reining everyone in and reminding them that "our goals are much bigger than winning the first playoff game."

I like it.

Brooking must be affecting Jerry as well as the team. I wonder if he hit Jerry as well as T-New?

Jerry never has been much of spur of the moment or spontaneous type of guy:rolleyes:

Jerry has been much more cautious and measured the last few months, it seems to me, and I love it. Seems like he's come a long way from the days when he predicted a crappy 2002 Quincy-led team would win 10 games and make the playoffs.

Well, Charles Haley was at the game (they showed him on the jumbotron) so maybe he gave him a tip!

He finally gets it. This whole team has the right attitude. It feels like a team, a very focused one at that.

True.

And it's weird. They say you can't teach old dogs new tricks, but Jerry (at 67?) continues to evolve and "mature," for lack of a better word.

I think Stephen Jones is behind some of this. Stephen, by most accounts is a steady, solid, thoughtful guy, and he reportedly helped persuade his father to release Owens. He is the one who tried to keep Jerry from giving Deion a new contract. He is the one who (I think) helps keep Jerry's feet on the ground, and is the sane voice in Jerry's ear.

Maybe Jerry is learning from his son ... or at least yielding to him some. Maybe Jerry now believes that chemistry (especially in the locker room) matters.

I was watching NFLN this morning and they were playing some of the post game PCs of the players.

All of them pretty much reiterated what Jerry said. Happy and excited for the win, but that it was just one game. The analyst also said that most of them were happier for Wade than anything else.
