Garrett is the head coach. Many head coaches don’t get involved in personnel isssues. That’s what a general manager is there for.

He can lobby for a player but personnel decisions is not one of his job duties.

Do you think Jerry makes this decision independent of Garrett?

Dez is under contract for next year. Why wouldn't Garrett expect him to be there?

How do we know Garrett doesn't want to cut him if Dez refuses to take a pay cut?

Well Jerry is the GM. He is in charge of the roster

But you don't hear other GMs talking about such matters. Usually, the coach is the mouthpiece for the team.
