The article gives more detail than the headlines.

Thursday will be Brent's meeting with Goodell. I hope this stays to a football topic, but I'm sure other stuff will be posted.

I have mixed opinions on this still, of bringing Brent back. Strictly from a football perspective. Can he really help the team, and would creating a roster spot be good. It's certainly good for Brent, but what about the team.

I'm not sure Brent would help this DL, but others and the coaches know more than I, and at times think it's best he sits out a year before returning. Which may happen if he is suspended before being eligible to return. I'm all for him to continue his NFL career, but may be best for another team.

If they create a roster spot, I hope becuase they truly believe he can help this team, and not just for sake of a support thing.

I still don't understand why it would be better if it's on another team? I'm not directing this at you because I've seen it written a few times, but that just sounds like a cop out. Why not this team? His whole support group is here he's friends are here the owner who has supported him is here, Mr. Wells the man in charge of helping him get his life back together is here. It's makes zero sense for him to go to another team. Heck if anything if he went to another team it could damage all the work he's done for himself. I don't know how much he can help, but I'm willing to give the guy a chance and see where his head is and where he is physically.

I have my opinions on the right and wrong of this morally, but I'll keep it football related. Why on Earth would we be keeping a roster spot open for a guy who hasn't played in over a year? A guy who wasn't exactly Randy White in his prime to begin with? Why not just say "we're open to giving him a tryout," or something more along those lines?

I understand what you are saying, yes better for here, for the support. I put that in there for discussion. As it will be brought up.

It's a good discussion, I'm just curious as to why some think it's better it's on another team? Personally going to another state when your whole support system is here just seems like it's a problem waiting to happen. Dude is probably dealing with have depression and I could see another change damaging the work he's put in. I say give him a shot and let him earn it and he needs to provide for his god daughter. No better place then here

If the man can play let him play. Who are we to judge? You know a shout out goes to the team for standing by this man, regardless of anyone's opinion that is a move of integrity. Whether that is on this team or another hopefully Brent rewards that faithfullness with his second chance at life.

I don't know why anybody is even surprised by this. Sean Lee the leader of the D was at his trial and backed him etc. Every time JG is asked a question its about being behind him. They believe in him obviously.

Now can he get in football shape is the real question? Anybody with a pulse can help this Dline at this juncture. Just my .02

Was RKG term ever truly explained, did JG ever come out and say RKG = perfect person on and off the field. I don't think he meant RKG = some CZer's perception of godlike character...
And what did McClain ever do to not get YOUR approval of the RKG ranking, he only was trying to get his personal life in order for himself AND his family. That sounds like a RKG to me, in your terms.

I believe the RKG is really football related more so than off the field. So yes you are correct in that talent can out weigh off the field issues. This is true in every sport, every team.

I'm sick of the whole "RKG" thing, because yawhoos here define it how ever they want to define it to support their agenda.

I'd rather see Brent EARN his roster spot.

Without a doubt and I think given a shot he will. I want to see what the guy is made of. I want to see him harness his emotion from guilt anger and depression and wreck opposing offenses.

We need a run stopper and if he can get in shape and be a run plugger in the middle so be it we don't have nobody that can do that in our DT's they're all mostly 3-techs

I just don't understand this Brent situation. This is a waste of time and energy. If Jerry wanted a DT he should have not traded up in the second round and stayed put to select Timmy Jernigan.

For Jerry to still welcome Brent back shows how desperate this team needs a DT.

I agree and he even explained that, it has more to do with dedication to the game and to the team. It is not about being a saint, having said that when your personal life starts negitively impacting the team and your performance then a player has to go. Jason took much of the RKG attiude from Bill Belicheck that is what NE looks for, does that always end up being the case? No ask A. Hernandez.

Low risk high reward Dallas has already invested draft picks in the guy and time and money. So now it doesn't cost anything to see if the investment pays off.

Because Dallas wanted a pass rushing DE and after 2 other tops one went off the board Dallas felt they had to move to get their guy. As Will McClay said

On trading a third-round pick to move up and draft Boise State defensive end Demarcus Lawrence: “There’s five million [trade charts],” McClay said. “There’s 10,000 ways to look at how you do the draft. What’s most important is that you have a vision for the player, that you know what you expect to get and what value do we place on that for what we’re trying to do. I think we were very well prepared to do the things we needed to do because we discussed them.”

– McClay’s thoughts on Lawrence: “With the amount of passing that’s in the NFL right now, and the way that we’re going to play defense, it’s important to play fast, to play physical and get after the passer,” he said. “Whether this guy starts and plays 60 plays a game, which we don’t plan on doing, or if he plays 30-40 plays a game, as he gets into learning the NFL game, as long as he does what we drafted him for, we got great value.”

People can debate this all they want, Dallas did have to give up a pick to make this move but in the end if you end up with a guy you wanted then sometimes you have to bite the bullet
