Jerry: Two offers to trade out of the first and get a first-round pick next year

Tampa Bay could also be one of those teams. They have a tendency to bounce back after a poor year and they probably feel like with a more secure QB situation that they will have a much better record next year.

They have a ton of draft picks this year, including two in the second round. I could totally see them trading back up with us into the first round, giving us the 3rd pick in the second round and then taking the best defensive lineman on the board or possibly a safety. That could especially happen if they take Johnson with their first pick. They need a ton of defensive help, but they may not be able to pass up on Johnson. So, making a trade like this would make sense for them.

Old STSINAZ used to be a poster when I was at the Fort Worth Star Telegram. He can be one outrageous guy.

I'm new to this board and have only recently started reading the threads, but so far I haven't seen STS go nearly as crazy as he is capable of. When he starts typing IN ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME and talking about having conversations with God ( who discusses football with him of course, lol ) THEN you'll get the full STS experience.
:welcome: and enjoy your stay.

The staff is aware of STS' origins.

Plain and simple: Get two first round picks for next year. Do what needs to be done to get Darren McFadden next year. Period.

My only concern with trading down this year for a 1st next year, is that based on the chart, we are looking at someone between picks 40-50 in order to get that extra 1st round pick.

So to go down that far, we are missing out not only on the top tier talent, but possibly even on that 2nd tier group of guys.

Unless that statement by Jerry about using the extra 2nd along with our own to still move up and get a good player, which to me means going up to the top of the 2nd.

That would make it more worth it to me to move down that far if we group our 2nds to move up again, maybe grab a good player who slipped out of the 1st (i would hope for Dwayne Jarrett).

Then we still have two 1st round picks next year, to either grab 2 good players, or as some have already suggested, bundle them to try and move up and grab McFadden.

I don't want us to get to far out of the action this year either. But if possible, we need to prepare for next year so we are in position to get McFadden.

With the news of the top of the 2nd considering QB'seven at the 40-50 range we could get a top G or falling player like Meriweather, Tank Tyler, Jarret, UNLV CB, Woodley, etc.

It's thinking like that that got us Quincy Carter. Jerry Jones, left to his own devices, is dangerous in a draft. We need to continue to acquire quality players in the draft, not start getting cute with draft picks.

True, but remember, Ireland is in his ear this time, more than ever since BP's departure, he would give sound advice...also, after the first few picks in this draft (Landry, Okoye, Peterson, Willis, and Johnson) talent levels drop off significantly, considering the rest of the high-rated prospects would be going in the second round rather than the first in any other draft year ( Anthony Spencer for example is a second-round pick talent-wise, but he may go to the Ravens' or even our 'Boys in the first)

There are many teams that arre trying to move thier picks to higher spots (Buffalo wants to pick Willis, but pick him at around 15 rather than 11)

Me? I want to trade up; I want Peterson...but that would be stupid considering we would have to give a LOAD of picks ala saints/Ricky Williams to get him

I think you meant McFadden and I would absolutely love to get him. He will be better than AP IMO. At least he seems more durable at this point.

Agreed.

Yeah you're right i meant McFadden. I've been hearing AP's name so often i mixed them up.

McFadden is the RB I want. The kid is a great player...

Considering how much we would have to give up to get Peterson, and how often he has been injured, and the upright style he has that invites big hits, I would think the smart thing to do would be to get another first rd pick that could be used next year.

Dead on and my fear concerning Peterson... he is a great talent but his injury past and upright running style scares me...

If Jerry can swing the deal for a first rounder next year, he should...

Is McFadden expected to be the #1 overall pick next season or top five? It would be difficult to trade up that high even with two first I would think.

Well, he is an underclassmen, so he may not even come out although it is likely he will...

I think he will be considered a top 5 pick out of the gate but we'll have to wait til next season to see...

I don't understand this statement. How is it possible to have too many picks? Jimmy Johnson has been called a draft genius simply because he stockpiled picks and hit on a low percentage. As far as I'm concerned, the more picks the better, you don't have to be right as often. As far as having few needs, it's about upgrading the overall talent on the roster. If you happen to land someone who is better than someone else on the roster, that's a good thing not bad.

It's funny how people are willing to give up a 1st round pick this year, to get 2 1st next year to get a player, but are un-willing to give up a 1st this year, and next year along with other picks, to move up and get a star receiver.

Just thought I'd chuckle over that for a minute. Either way it goes, you're giving up 2 1st.

Do it, Jerry, do it.

trade out if you can get a trade with a team that has potential to be lousy in 2007. No way you can ever no for sure, but Oakland, Detroit, Tampa, Minn., Cleveland, Buffalo, Arizona, Houston, Tenn., etc...... look like teams that have holes that cannot be filled this year and could easily be a top 10 draft pick in 2008.

That part's a crapshoot. The range, according to Mickey Spagnola's guessing IIRC, is 40-50, which is to say that's the spot we would be trading into. Anything higher and they could make up the difference with a 3rd this year and anything lower and they'd have to give up more than a 1st next year.

Meaning the team we're trading with would have been anywhere from bad to mediocre this past season, which is close enough for government work as far as I'm concerned.
