I'm no longer drinking the McFadden kool-aid, but I'm chugging it. LSU had gone all year without giving up a 100 yard back, then McFadden goes for 205 and 3 TDs. He has done it every year at Arkansas with a miserable supporting cast.

Outside of depth at the corner position, this team has no holes. Upgrade from Julius Jones and you've got a powerhouse for many years to come.

Is Jerry crazy enough? I think so.

I hope so, I pray so

don't know why you're drooling about the possibilities that will never happen

focus on that next great back, McFadden

I was just focusing on Peterson, because it shows how much of an impact a special RB can be in this 'pass-happy' league. Just because teams have moven away from it, doesn't mean it can't still be damn effective.

Jerry wants McFadden. This is obvious. He's spent enough on the defense, so anythoughts of "More Corners!" should be abandoned early.

Jerry's getting McFadden. That's at about 90% probability right now, I'd imagine, lol. Maybe the price is too astronomical and we settle for some PAC-10 receiver who's gonna suck forever...but McFadden looks more enticing all the time.

But...We need...More corners!!

No, we really do not. The TRUTH behind out pass D.

While we currently are 18th in the league in passing yards per game allowed, that really do not tell the whole story because we have also seen the 4th most passes thrown against us. A few stats that are much more telling are:
Yards/Att: 6th
Yards/Comp: 9th
QB Rating: 4th
Completion Percentage: 4th

That in itself shows a pretty solid passing D. To further expand probally the best way of juding how good a passing D is, is to average out rankings in:
Yard/Att
QB Rating
Comp %
Yards/Game

When you average those out for all 32 NFL teams, Dallas ranks #4 in the league behind only: Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Tampa Bay.

but why? our offense is tops in the league, we just can't cover.

'balance' to me would say we can certainly improve upon jones, but not sacrafice a CB and/or WR to get mcfadden, if not even more.

offense won't be what kills us this year, if we don't make it. defense is. given that we need to address the CB position more so than RB.

Gonna be a very exciting draft day thats for sure.

All I know is I can get a solid corner and maybe an outstanding WR in the 1st round, and there are a bunch of very good RB's to be had in the 2nd.

Lets be honest here, I think we could get any of the top 7 backs coming out who would be much beter than Julius
McFadden
Felix Jones (likely to come out now that Nutt is gone)
Jonathon Stewart
Mendenhall (Illinois)
Ray Rice
Steve Slaton
Smith (Central florida)
And there are probably 5 more than are every bit as good as Julius.

I think one or two from the above list will slip to us in the 2nd round.

So...............
McFadden for the same price as........
Best Corner (possibly safety) available
Best WR available
and one of the guys listend above.

I love mcfadden, but I just don't know how you give up a first round corner and first round WR for him. Not when you should still be able to get a damn fine RB in the second round.

If this were a normal draft with average talent coming out at the RB position (like last year), then yes, sell the farm and get him. But in all my years watching the draft, I've never seen this kind of talent come out at the RB position all at once. And for that reason, and that reason alone, I pass on McFadden.

Most of the time I would agree with you 100%, however I'd do anything to go back and take Stephen Jackson, rather then have JJ and Spears...which is what we got the next year by trading out of the 1st round.

If we trade our first day picks to get McFadden I will be ok with it...only because we are in pretty good shape overall.

I would love to have Cason or another top CB, but the fact is we could get another great RB in DMac for years to come.

We will make some moves in FA...could be WR or CB, but will fill other holes we feel we have.

the Pat's D can't stop the run, or cover

but they're beating teams over the head w/ their offense, and it's one-dimensional

w/ where we'll be picking, 22nd or later, in the draft, we're not going to get a blue-chip prospect, I would like one at RB

idk, it's just a personal preference for me, although I wouldn't be mad if we saved the 2 1sts and chose Jonathan Stewart w/ one of them

I agree with you, as long as we make some solid FA signings. But corner is the hardest position to sign in FA. They normally ask for way too much money, so it will be hard to get a guy to replace either Henry or Newman in a few years.

Yea, that is the key. We are not talking about trading a pair of top 10 picks for McFadden. We are talking about trading a pair of low ones (and maybe throw Carp in or a 2nd), for McFadden.

Honestly, I really dont see anybody we draft in the 20s coming in here and starting. We will be drafting a pair of backups.

I would much rather package picks that would be used to draft backups and maybe throw a litte more in to get McFadden.

I have watched his games this year and he is a beast. He also is not doing this against a bunch of Div 2 schools either, he is ripping up the freaking SEC.

LSU probably has 12-14 guys that will be playing in the NFL at some point and he was a freaking man among boys out there fellas. Also, he basically is the offense for Arkansas, they dont have a great QB or great WRs.

You put a BEAST like McFadden in our spread offense, we would be dropping "fity" on everybody. :D

scouts are already telling Goose that McFadden is a special player

But is he special because he's so physically gifted, or is he special because he has such great vision and intangibles? To me that would be a big question.

Emmitt was special because of his balance, instincts and vision. If a back has those qualities (like Peterson) then he's going to be a good one. If he also has the physical gifts to be special (like Peterson) added to those intangibles, then you have a chance for someone like Peterson, Eric Dickerson, Walter Peyton, etc.

THAT is when I'd sell the farm to get a guy... when he has both sets of "gifts".

That's what I was wondering about McFadden.

That's something we need to not forget. Two picks in the 20's (or one in the 20's and one in the 30's;) ) are no guarantee to yield an impact guy. Carpenter was 18th. Of course, I like Spencer and he's a mid 20's guy, so you just can't tell at this point.

Like BFE said also... it won't be easy to bring in people who can start on this team in the 20's or 30's. We drafted a bunch of backups who did squat in the mid/late 90's and I'm in no itchin' hurry to do that again.

I know we drafted poorly then and are much better now... but still. I remember thinking that I would have much rather traded away a buttload of picks for one impact guy. I wanted Gonzalez the year we drafted LaFleur and a bunch of other no name guys. He went like 10 picks before we took LaFleur and I wanted a trade up. Just think... he'd still be playing for us at a high level had we done that.

IMO, One impact guy like McFadden would be much better than 4 or 5 role guys buried on our depth chart. At least in our current situation, it's what I'd like to see us do. $0.02
