scouts are already telling Goose that McFadden is a special player
But is he special because he's so physically gifted, or is he special because he has such great vision and intangibles? To me that would be a big question.
Emmitt was special because of his balance, instincts and vision. If a back has those qualities (like Peterson) then he's going to be a good one. If he also has the physical gifts to be special (like Peterson) added to those intangibles, then you have a chance for someone like Peterson, Eric Dickerson, Walter Peyton, etc.
THAT is when I'd sell the farm to get a guy... when he has both sets of "gifts".
That's what I was wondering about McFadden.

w/ where we'll be picking, 22nd or later, in the draft, we're not going to get a blue-chip prospect, I would like one at RB
That's something we need to not forget. Two picks in the 20's (or one in the 20's and one in the 30's
) are no guarantee to yield an impact guy. Carpenter was 18th. Of course, I like Spencer and he's a mid 20's guy, so you just can't tell at this point.
Like BFE said also... it won't be easy to bring in people who can start on this team in the 20's or 30's. We drafted a bunch of backups who did squat in the mid/late 90's and I'm in no itchin' hurry to do that again.
I know we drafted poorly then and are much better now... but still. I remember thinking that I would have much rather traded away a buttload of picks for one impact guy. I wanted Gonzalez the year we drafted LaFleur and a bunch of other no name guys. He went like 10 picks before we took LaFleur and I wanted a trade up. Just think... he'd still be playing for us at a high level had we done that.
IMO, One impact guy like McFadden would be much better than 4 or 5 role guys buried on our depth chart. At least in our current situation, it's what I'd like to see us do. $0.02
