Strongest RB draft in years and we’re gonna resign 2 vets.
:laugh::laugh::laugh:
Should franchise Pollard and draft 2 RBs.
1) need a guy to pair with Pollard
2) need to stock up on RBs to develop so some RB is ready to take over from Pollard in 2024

Sounds like Pollard staying is a lock...
I'd draft one RB and keep Davis. He's probably going to be on par with most RBs drafted in the later rounds, plus we already know he can play STs.

LOL, no he doesn’t. Take this one with a grain of salt. This is Jerry, at least in his mind, saying the right things. Zeke has likely played his last down as a Cowboy.

He scored 12 td’s last year so if they can get him for 3 or 4 mil a year, I’d do that deal in a heart beat. And how many short yardage first downs did he get?
3-4 million a year would mean his cap hit would be around 9-10 million.

For a backup. I can see why some would do this but there is also value in just dumping him now and getting his future cap charges off the books now.

He's not worth keeping for free because there is nothing he can do better than a fresh rookie from perhaps the deepest RB draft in the modern era.
Oh my gawd.

He does almost everything better than rookies other than break big runs.

Pass pro, understanding where the blitz is coming from, short yardage, catching the ball even.

Most rookies are disasters in those areas.

What is Zeke's value in terms of $? If the tag Pollard that's $10 million. Even if Zeke takes the league minimum he would still be a $7 million CAP cost. But that's $10 m illion better than where they are now.

You either offer Zeke a chance to compete for a spot on the team at the league minimum, or you cut his fat arse.

Not sure how contracts work. Can they cut him and resign him to a new contract? I dunno.

Maybe but the stats show he's not as good as people think at the things you guys claim he does really well.

I can see both arguments here. One, just cut him and get him off the books for the future and move on. But the cap savings, if you want savings to spend on good FAs is only around $5 million pre June 1. If you cut his pay from $10.9 million to say $3 million, you save nearly $8 million against the cap pre June 1. Makes sense. But then the downside is dealing with him again in 2024.

I'd just rather dump him now and move on as a franchise but at the end of the day, I can see trying to get him to take a massive pay cut.

In theory you could.

But the cap implications appear worse. Because if you cut him and make him a pre June 1 cut, you have to advance all that future prorated stuff into this year. Then you resign him and he's now on your books for the new base salary AND then all the future prorated bonus/restructure stuff.

If you want him to stay, the smartest way seems to convince him to take a massive pay cut on his base now under his existing structure.

I guess we’ll find out soon. I believe his salary is fully guaranteed when the season officially opens in a couple weeks.

Davis ceiling is ST emergency/trash time RB. I wouldn't cut him either, but I want more for our 1-2 RBs for 2024 and beyond, and it shouldn't cost much to find more.
