Jerry, why are you dragging your feet on Winston?

Eric Winston said on the radio that he was looking for a $3-4 million per year deal, and that it didn't have to be a long term deal.

Huh? Where do we sign? And I mean right now!

That is a very friendly contract for a good right tackle, and you pair that with drafting Cooper or Warmack in the first round.....and this line is tremendously better already.

Get that done, Jerry. What are you waiting for? You already have enough cap space to get it done, and then when you cut Free in June, you can sign your draft picks.

Run to the phone, Jerry, before someone beats you to it.

if he was signed today and someone like calabo was signed for less in a month people would be bashing jerry. there is no one trying to sign any of these guys and for that reason there is no reason to rush out and throw money at them

I agree, but that is not a lot of money for a RT at all. That's nothing compared to what Jerry paid Free, and Winston is actually a really good tackle that has never had an injury.

Jerry would rather suck on a rattlesnake head than admit he made a huge mistake signing Free to that obscene contract. He's already said that Tony is so mobile, he doesn't need to sign any good lineman...Camp bodies will do. He would like to get Free to take a giant paycut so that he could come off looking better, but Free is too smart for Jerry. Jerry is just sucking on his wild turkey because he's got to pay Free his money.

Another Jerry blunder....

Maybe the Cowboys think Free is salvageable? Maybe they think that he can be a better tackle with a solid unit around him? We'll see....

I like Winson, but I'd much rather build the line through the draft. Let's draft a tackle with one of our first two picks and we won't have to worry about that position for a while.

Then the season is already over.

Free led the league in penalties and he was a traffic cone over there. Guys went inside him, around him, and through him. He was hiddeously awful.

You draft a tackle now in the second round (the top ones will be gone by 18), and he'll be ready to start in a 2-3 years.....maybe.

No, you get an established, solid veteran now and get the offensive line in order immediately. Winston is 29, never been injured, and offensive lineman often play well into their 30s at a high level.

if he is so good and cheap why is still avail with little interest. why is he looking for another team, his third team already. something doesn't add up.

I think we should avoid signing anymore free agents until after the draft. If we draft a RT in the 1st or 2nd round that we expect to start then we are just throwing away money and cap space on Winston. Besides, Winston must not be that great if he is basically begging teams to throw him a 1 year deal. Jerry continuing to sign mediocre players like Winston is not solving the problem. We stunk because he tried to sign rejects last year (Livings and Bernadeau). This draft is deep in OLine. Time to draft some of these big uglies and let them play.

What are you talking about? Every tackle taken in the second round of the 2012 draft ended up starting last season. You build a good line through the draft. Or example, the 49ers had arguably the best line last season, and they drafte four of their five starters.

I would love for us to go OG in round 1, RT in round 2, safety in round 3, should be a good C to be had in round 4, RB in round 5.

Didn't I read somewhere that we reached out to Tyson Clabo? Maybe they want a longer term solution at RT through FA.

if you sign a rt before the draft, then you can get a guard early and then dt,safety and rb. i'm not sure you can get a tackle where we pick in the 2nd that is starter ready for the nfl, maybe a guard there is possible. but if warmack or cooper is there at 18 do you take a tackle instead?
to me if you are not convinced that parnell is a starter quality player then you sign a tackle and draft a guard early and hope that either warmack or cooper is still there. if they are gone you take a safety or dt then look at warford or frederick later

If your going to do it, I think now is the time to buy. I imagine after the draft the price begins to climb.

Whether or not that is true, the story is bigger when the Cowboys are mentioned with a players name & you know this.

i agree that between now and the draft is the best time. some team looking to the draft and not getting someone could drive up the price after the draft. the only thing with 3 of them that could keep it down.

I think its more that Kc is drafting a tackle this year, then he is not adequate.

Do we have the money to sign him right now? The answer is no (hence why Doug Free was asked to take a pay cut and should play for his last name).

Yes, he was awful. :laugh1:

I said at the end of last season that I would n't be surprised if he went to camp in July. I still would not be surprised.
