Jerry, why are you dragging your feet on Winston?

If your first two picks can be:
#18: Lane Johnson (I know a super long shot, but weirder things have happened)/Fluker
#47: Warford/Fredrick

or

#18: Warmack/Cooper
#47: Armstead/Watson

You don't need to bring in a FA OL, and you actually fixed the OL, not just patched it.

That's what the Cowboys think too, according to Broaddus.

How many times have we seen Jerry hold out signing a guy because it might cost him a little more????

He does it all the time....so this shouldn't be a surprise. A prime example was the fiasco w/ Matt McBriar last year. This is classic Jerry trying to show a guy who is the boss. And frankly...People see right through it now. So it an ineffective tactic Jerry continually falls back on.

And people wonder why we can't sign anyone....

"Well it is the Dallas Cowboys". Which is true.

But what people within the organization don't understand...it's Jerry that is the skunk in the room that keeps people away.

Who wants to play for an owner that just doesn't understand the game of football? Jerry still think it's the 1960's and Arkansas is the king of college football. I'm shocked coach Jerry in his ultimate wisdom hasn't broke out the full house back field/Wing T formations and make a season out of it. Then label himself a trendsetter.
why would we have wanted mcbriar when he had a punter already. if anything jerry has been too quick to sign guys, not too slow.

if he was signed today and someone like calabo was signed for less in a month people would be bashing jerry. there is no one trying to sign any of these guys and for that reason there is no reason to rush out and throw money at them

That's why you sign them now while demand is low, if you wait until after the draft when a few teams might still have holes to fill at those position all of a sudden their price and leverage goes up and you end up spending more or worse yet play another season with the crap we had last year at OL

Why are Winston & Clabo available? Winston played years with Houston and last year with KC and was not retained. What do they know that the Cowboys don't. Clabo was most likely let go for cap reasons but he is already 32 and is more of a risk to decline. I suspect that the Cowboys are following the prudent approach of trying to fill remaining needs thru the draft first. It's cheaper and fixes long term problems more quickly. If they don't get their picks, they can always revisit players still on the market. Yes, they may have to pay a bit more but they should have some cash with savings from Free after June 1st.

Have you studied his 2012 game film? He was cut 2 years in a row and there are rumors that he has some knee issues.

Jerry is damned if he does, and damned if he don't.

I am well aware of that...But the Cowboys only have so much money they can spend thanks to some really bad contracts. If the best availabe person is a FS, DT, OT, or OG they will take that person and look to free agency later after the draft has been made. Wouldn't make much sense to bring in Winston or Moore if Dallas can draft both Lane Johnson in the first and Fluker (odds are about 0%) in the 2nd.

Lets say the draft goes like this:
18th pick Lane Johnson (odds are about 1% that he's there)
47th pick Eric Reid
80th pick Alvin Bailey

They now have their starting RT, FS, and RG
At this point they would
be better off diverting their limited money towards a free agent DT like Shaun Cody or Sedrick Ellis would be better served than either Moore or Winston.

But lets say the draft goes like this instead:
18th Sheldon Richardon
47th Larry Warford
80th Damontre Moore (very slim odds at 80)

In this case Winston would be a good pickup as the team was unable to draft a tackle. The point I'm trying to make is Dallas will not what positions it needs to get in Free agency until after the draft and they do not have alot of money so I wouldn't expect any double dipping like drafting a guard high and still signing one in FA.

This would be some sweet drafts!

But really, Fluker may be there at 18 (not 47) and almost zero chance that Lane Johnson falls past 11....let alone to 18.

But keeping options open on draft day is usually good.

Do you have any history to back up your argument that demand will increase? Because history has shown that the later you get in FA, the cheaper players sign for. Plus, there is always the June 1st cuts, that will further flood the market in a few months. Sorry, the price they could be signed for is not going to go up. Time and time again history has proven that to absolutely NOT be true.

Eric Winston said on the radio that he was looking for a $3-4 million per year deal, and that it didn't have to be a long term deal.

Huh? Where do we sign? And I mean right now!

That is a very friendly contract for a good right tackle, and you pair that with drafting Cooper or Warmack in the first round.....and this line is tremendously better already.

Get that done, Jerry. What are you waiting for? You already have enough cap space to get it done, and then when you cut Free in June, you can sign your draft picks.

Run to the phone, Jerry, before someone beats you to it.

what's the rush? he likely won't sign anywhere till after the draft.
