Absolutely agree.
But I feel for those who dare to have a negative opinion. They seemed to get bashed more than they should.
For the disappointment adn collapse that was the 2008 season, I think people have a right to ***** and moan a bit.
"A bit"??
Some of these guys have been snarling since January... does there ever come a point where they get all their bile out??
As one of the "bashers" to whom you refer, I'll just say that I let those folks vent for a coupla months, knowing after all this time that I couldn't do anything to stop it... but by now, I'm past fed up with the gloom and doomers, especially the ones who are already predicting gloom and doom for the upcoming season...
That strikes me as ASININE, when at this point none of us could tell you who will be on our 53 man roster... there's still a free agent move or even two available to the team, and a draft to be held... so how can anybody possibly project how good or bad this team will be next season??
Beyond that, I'd argue that each and every loss this offseason has been offset by an addition that is at least equal in talent to the player lost, or in one or two cases, an upgrade... except, of course, for the loss of TO, which I found disappointing but completely understandable...
We replace Brad Johnson with Jon Kitna-- upgrade...
We replaced Zach Thomas with Keith Brooking-- perhaps an upgrade, certainly not a downgrade... I'd call it a wash...
We replaced Roy Williams with Gerald Sensabaugh-- a definite upgrade over the Roy Williams of the last couple of years...
We replaced Chris Canty (who I hated to see go) for Igor Olshansky-- we lose something in the way of pass rush, but gain something in the way of run defense, so this move is also a wash... except when you factor in the contracts both players got, that makes Igor even more attractive...
We lost Tank Johnson, and haven't replaced him yet, but what did he contribute last year??
So again, I say that other than losing TO, we have actually upgraded our talent with our free agent moves this offseason...
Doesn't make them any less of a fan or mean they should get lost.
If you're already quitting on the Cowboys, predicting disaster for the upcoming season, then you are most assuredly less of a fan than I am... I didn't quit on them when they were going 1-15 back in 89...
But of course, I don't really want those snarling now to "get lost", that's just me expressing my contempt for that mindset in the only way that I can without getting an infraction... I'd never say such a thing if I thought there was even a miniscule chance they'd take my advice...
After my own huge disgust and disappointment, I've turned my attentions more toward the positives of free agency and the draft.
That attitude, I can respect... of course I understand why fans are upset over what happened last year, but they're quick to forget that this team was 13-3 just two years ago... there is still a lot of talent on this team, all they need to do is figure out how to start pulling together... to me, getting rid of TO helps them accomplish that... to me, his constant demands to get more "touches" was counterproductive to the overall offense, and I fully expect to see a more balanced offense that may be even more productive than it was 2 years ago... we should have been playing to our strengths last year, those strengths being Barber, Jones and Choice... instead, we were placating a prima donna...
So I've convinced myself that getting rid of TO was a positive, no matter what kind of production he offered (and like others, it surely seemed to me that he was slowing down last year)...
